Why won't my Spotify recommendations play in my iPad app?

Solved!

Why won't my Spotify recommendations play in my iPad app?

Recently got an iPad and when I get an emailed recommendation list from Spotify and click the play link it doesn't open my app. Instead it opens Safari and tries to make me login to the web player. When I use my iPhone this doesn't happen - the play link just opens up the app and plays the track straight from there which is what I want to happen.

Any suggestions? Can't find anything in settings to solve this.
Thanks

Tried that and the website just opens and tells me to get Spotify - even if I'm logged in and have the Spotify app open.

Can you try following the steps here to see if they can disable the web player for you?

Hi, and welcome to the community!

What happens if you do log into Spotify in safari? The web player doesn't work on mobile devices so it should just open Spotify.

If that doesn't do anything, try a quick reinstall of the Spotify app.

Thanks - will give that a try and let you know how I get on.

Peter - that works somehow. The first link didn't give me an "I have Spotify link" but after that, email links are opening first in the web player but then immediately in the app.
Can't help feeling that there ought to be an easier way than this - surely just an option in settings that allows you to choose the app or the web player.

Many thanks for the fix!

Hi,

Just incase you want to know, I have submitted an idea here which requests a way to choose between the web player and the application. Feel free to add Kudos and comment to show your support!
