have started getting ads on my £4.99 a month Spotify account on ipad

Solved!

have started getting ads on my £4.99 a month Spotify account on ipad

Hi there,
I have just recently purchased an iPad for which I immediately I downloaded spotiify. I have the £4.99 account but for whatever reason, I keep getting adverts when I play the songs from the ipad. This is not the case when I play music on my PC. I have logged in and out several times but this doesn't seem to solve the issue. Can you shed some light on the situation please? Many thanks

Hello!

I'm pretty sure you're on the Unlimited subscription (the middle tier between free and premium). You'd need to subscribe to the £9.99 Premium subscription to remove ads on your mobile device. The Unlimited tier gives you ad-free playing, etc., but only on your desktop computer.

Thanks. A bit sneaky from spotify and clearly a gimmick to get you to upgrade again but useful to know either way.

Hardly sneaky - the changes were announced two weeks ago. In any event, unlimted wouldn't have worked on any mobile device in the UK as Premium was required proir to this so you're actually getting more 🙂

I'm afraid it is sneaky. As a newcomer to spotify, I read the comparisons and it says unlimited has no adverts. It does not say except if you are using an Ipad. So I am feeling Spotify has had my leg up by clever wording.

Got a link to where you read this? We can pass it over to the Spotify team for you.

It's bull**bleep** anyway. I NEVER listen to Spotify on my desktop computer (because it doesn't sync well with my bluetooth speakers) I ONLY listen on my iPad, and my iPad isn't even 3G enabled, so you could hardly call it a mobile device. I don't think it costs anymore for Spotify to upkeep their iPad app than their desktop app. So why does it matter which device I'm using if I'm still only using one?

I've been paying $4.99 a month for my supposedly advertising-free subscription for some time now. Then all of a sudden I start hearing ads. I don't care if there was an announcement or if Spotify decided to change their tier pricing. $4.99/month for ad-free music is what I paid for and what I got for many months. Has nobody there ever heard of "grandfathering?" That's what I would've expected to happen.

Now I guess I just have to suck it up and pay twice as much for features that I don't even want.

I agree - this is sneaky. At least I know now - not sure I want to fork out another fiver for the privilege, though....
