iOS 10 - BMW Connected Drive - loosing connection

hi,

 

since upgrading to iOS 10 spotify does not work as expecpted with connected drive. it looses the connection to the car every 10 to 20 seconds. when the connection is lost the screen on the iPhone changes from the "Spotify - BMW - Security Screen" to the normal spotify screen. as soon as the connection is reestablished the security screen reappears. I tried to restart the navigation system in the car and to restart the iPhone. Did not solve the problem. I tried the USB cable instead of the phone dock in the car, did not solve the problem.

As I received my iPhone 7 yesterday I also tried the new one, same problem.

 

when using the "external device" menu in the BMW and connect using USB it works but as it is just sound I can't select a playlist or jump to the next track

 

this issue is related to iOS 10 but I can't say if it is Spotify or BMW onboard software.

did some testing yesterday and found a solution that worked for me twice.

 

can you test to start the connected drive app on your iphone?

 

it's important that you use the new connected drive app (https://itunes.apple.com/at/app/bmw-connected/id1099848339?mt=8) and not the old app which is called "Classic" https://itunes.apple.com/at/app/bmw-connected-classic/id406975118?mt=8

 

after starting the app the connection was stable.

Got the very same issue with all music apps with my new iPhone 7 and Connected Drive. Tried to remove and add the iPhone in the Bluetooth menu but the sound still randomly stops.

I have the same problem. Seems it has something to do with charging the battery. With IOS9... i didn' t had any issues. No idea what can fix the problem. Streaming by bluetooth goes with no problems.

also opened a ticket at BMW connected drive hotline.

just was at my BMW retailer and tried the spotify app with the brand new 420 LCI with the new navigation system released in August, no problems. so it seems to be a problem with iOS 10 and the BMW onboard software.

Thnx for the answer. Did the dealer had aan solution for the problem? I have a 2014 BMW and my dealer (Netherlands) didn't know of the problem or solution. 

no solution yet, connected drive hotline called me. they need a video, a timestamp and a BMW FIN, then they will send it to the IT department in Munich

if you want you can also send the info and I will attach it to my call to show them that the problem occurs more than once.

I just installed the new Connceted app as sugested and everything works fine. Spotify works without any problems and also the charging of the iPhone using the USB has no problems anymore. Thnx for your effort in solving this problem.

I've just followed these steps and still nothing. Normally I plug iphone in cradle and all apps are available on media. I've got nothing and Spotify will not work through cable or dock.

did you start the app manually? the best way is to start spotify and afterwords the bmw conencted drive app, after some seconds the apps appear. please leaf the bmw app open.

I think this has something to do with the way apps are working in the background. there were some changes in iOS 10. there are also some other apps that have this issue that they do not work in the background

the IOS app display has a warning button advising not to use the phone whilst driving. The problem is when this button is displayed it stops the music and will not restart until pressed. If displayed before you start your journey then ok but it does not. It comes up after I start driving for a while and requires removing the phone from the centre console opening the case unlocking it and then pressing the button. Hardly a safety feature!!

Will try this today... But I am also having issues where the iphone is losing power within milliseconds. Charge then no charge then charge etc. I have tried multiple cables including off brand ones as well as original apple ones. I have tested the same cables with my laptop and regular chargers and they work fine. 

Have you solved the problem with the charging yet? Picked up my brand new F11 today and connected my iPhone 7 with the same cable I used in my 2014 F11 and I got the same problem. Bluetooth worked fine.

For me downloading at least one song in iTunes stopped the issue with music stopping after 10-20 seconds , yet the Spotify app does not show up in my multimedia section anymore on the new iPhone 8 😞
