iPhone 5s malfunctions when synced to Spotify

I have just realized I can't sync Spotify to my iPod shuffle which may make me cancel Spotify.  However, if I was to run with my iPhone 5, I might keep it.  When I sync Spotify with my iPhone, the phone goes nuts for about 3 hours.  It starts doing multiple things on its own, and not just in Spotify.  It begins to message and call people, dial weird numbers, and open and close apps.  This crazienss lasts, even if I reset the phone.  Then, in about 3-4 hours it will be functioning normal again.  Very annoying.

On iOS it shouldn't be possible for an application to do any of those things without your permission. 

If you go to iOS Settings --> Privacy you should find Spotify doesn't access anything else on your phone. 

Have you definitively tested this only happens when Spotify is installed and running?

Yes, well, even when I close Spotify, it continues for a while.  I have confirmed that it is only when I sync Spotify.  If I open it just to listen to music, it doesn't happen.  It's only when I sync via wifi.
