Brief description of the issue:
When browsing in the iPhone App, i.e. scrolling down in the albums list, the scrolling suddenly stops and the app cannot be controlled anymore. The music normally continues playing and I can sometimes - not always - see the time bar on the bottom continuing and even changing song titles. However sometimes music playback also stopps after a few seconds and the app then crashes completely, getting me back to the home screen. In other cases, the app starts respondig again afer 10-30 seconds.
Steps to reproduce the issue:
Open the app and start scrolling through the library. It normally occurs within the first 20 seconds after opening the app, sometimes later.
What steps you’ve tried already:
I have reinstallled the Spotify-app, even resetted the iphone completely and installed nothing but the Spotify-app. I have tried deleting every song from my library, but the problem is still there.
The problem occurs only with my account - if i log in with another account on the same device, everything works fine.
The problem occurs while on wifi an on 4g.
Your device and operating system (e.g. iPhone 5, iOS 😎
iPhone 5 16GB running iOS 9.3.2. The problem also occurs on my iPad, but not as often.
Type of Spotify account you have (Free or Premium):
Premium
The app version of Spotify you’re using:
V 5.7.0.1055

I could try recording a video, if this helps?
I'm having exactly the same issues. with an iphone 5. the os and app are the latest update and ive uninstalled the app, lost my offline music, re-installed, tred a fix on another thread suggesting to clear safari's cache and then delete the app, restart the phone and then re-install... and still the same issue with it crashing after a just a few seconds, sometimes after a miunute or so, whether i'm using the app or not.
This is heartbreaking for a person who uses the tube for 2 hours a day and needs offline music. I've also had this account with spotify for years.
I have a free deezer account for having my mobile with EE so always felt I might be silly staying with spotify for £10 a month... if this isn't fixed pronto, I'll have to end it. My offline music's all been deleted anyway. LONG!
Please help!

Have you also tried using another account on the same device? And have you tried if the problem also occurs if you use the same account on a different device?
It seems to me that the problem is attached to a specific account. Therefore I thought about just transferring my premium subscription to another account since the problem only occurs with my current account.
I'll try that now...
Wow. It works. Perfectly.
FYI - I had to create a new account wih an old email.
Then I activated a trial for family membership on my account and sent the invite to this new account. I logged in to the iphone with that, so essentially able to download offline tracks too, and it was totally fine.
So it must be to do with the account. I thought it might have had something to do with some local files ive added to my lists recently, but everything seems fine using this other account. This might just get me through the next few days (end of the billing period), then the family account trial will end, so the fix needs to be out by then or i'll be steeeeaming...
But in case the first part of my last message misleads -
THE ISSUE IS STILL UNRESOLVED AND NEEDS A FIX ASAP.
Thanks! JT
You said that you have added some local files to your list recently.
Is this what you did: http://www.howtogeek.com/223024/how-to-add-your-own-music-to-spotify-and-sync-to-mobile/
Because I did exactly this about a month ago, too. So my (our our?) problem might be connected to this procedure, however it looks like the problem occurs not immediatly after syncing of the local files but some time later. I guess that it took about two weeks after syncing before the problems began.
I've had local files added in different playlists for a while and on previous iphones and spotify updates. I updated my lists a few times over the past couple of months with some old mp3s and some ripped from cds I've passed on via replaced hard-drives for about 15 years...
I didn't notice an immediate problem, just over the past 5 days. I think iphone os upgraded on my phone about a fortnight ago and I suspected, as has been the case before, that certain apps might become unstable until they bring out their own update, but really spotify seemed ok.
I'm worried they're locking out a lot of alternative content like local files (like they did away with the apps such as musixmatch) slowly but surely.
Local files have often disappeared from playlists on pc and iphone after a client update so I'm used to having to work-around and re-add them now and then to have what I want.
But the client is currently unusable with my original login but fine with the new one I mentioned in the previous post and I'm worried the app has corrupted the memory where the offline files were synced to on my phone.
I kinda think the only way to test it would be to add a bunch of the mp3s to my new account and then sync them to the phone... but I don't want to risk breaking another account and/or section of memory on the iphone.
Do you think Spotify will ever give us a direct response on this. Or is this not what this forum is for?
Lastly - My biggest gripe, this issue aside, with spotify, is the regular disappearance of music from playlists. Sometimes they lose a license (or whatever) and a track is gone or replaced with some other awful version without warning. But the fact that you could revert to old mp3s and replace the missing parts- like my beatles playlist that I had synced up way ahead of their official appearance, made the difference. Again, this issue is a deal-breaker and I'm already looking at the other services like tidal and deezer. Maybe I'm just cranky... but Spotify made me start paying for music again. Didn't see that happening in the 00's.

Update-
I logged in to may original spotify account on pc and removed all of the local files from the playlists I know are synced to the phone. Not happy about this as it will be a while rebuilding the list...
I then painstakingly logged in to spotify on my iphone a number of times but managed to get as far as changing the offline dowload setting to extreme quality. Then after a few more crashes, let the iphone try to start syncing... a few more crashes later, it seems stable.
So though it is a bit early to say with certainty, I think we're closer to identifying the local files and their syncing to the iphone is the cause of the issue.
So do I give up on adding these old mp3s now?
I guess when the iphone OS or the spotify client gets a big update it might be worth trying.
Any progress elsewhere?

I have largely the same issues:
- App crashing either "inexplicably" (sometimes) / While scrolling long lists (often) / After unlocking iphone having left the app open locking the phone (always) / After going back to the app (no matter if through douckclickhome or via icon on home screen) while running another "heavy" app (for example google maps).
I have uninstalled, hard reset iphone and reinstalled.
I have fiddled with settings (quality etc).
I have no offline songs / playlists.
No jailbreak. iOS 9.3.3 - V 5.7.0.1055
Hi guys, I resolved mine somehow, so there is a way!
i'm just not sure if this was what did it...
Unsync all playlists from the iphone.
When the spotify client is loaded on pc, go to preferences section and make sure that 'show unavailable songs in playlist' is checked (slider to green) and reload your synced and unsynced playlists. Maybe close the client and reload it...
Reinstall the spotify app.
Remove all of the tracks that are greyed-out on the spotify PC client.
Give that PC spotify client another reload. Why not?
Sync only playlists with spotify-available tracks to your iphone...
In my case I considered giving it a go without my favourite offline tracks but after ten minutes started adding the offline tracks and it seemed to be ok. No problems since then.
Good luck!
