iPod Touch Spotify (ios 6) crashes on startup after modify playlists on macbook

Solved!

iPod Touch Spotify (ios 6) crashes on startup after modify playlists on macbook

Hello,

I updated my playlists on my computer (in particular, created a playlist folder) (Macbook, with Lion).  I then started up Spotify on my iPod Touch 2011 model, with ios 6.  Within seconds of starting up, Spotify crashes.  This is the second time I have had this issue.  Last time it occurred, I was only able to fix it by doing the following:

-starting up in offline mode prevents the crash, but then I am forced to perpetually listen to music I have already synced.

The only way to listen to new music and fix the problem, as far as I can tell, is to delete the Spotify app from the iPod Touch and reinstall it.  I thus have to also resync all my music, which takes several hours.  Furthermore, Spotify does not provide a way to search for albums to sync, so it is extremely tedious to scroll through a long list of album covers to find the local files I want to sync.

This is a huge issue.  It is absurd to design Spotify in such a way that, after making a slight change to playlists on my computer, it perpetually crashes on my other device (iPod).  The only permanent solution I can see is to never move playlists, rearrange them, or create playlist folders on my computer.

Also, it is particularly insulting that Spotify does not provide a customer support number.  As a paying premium subscriber, I would be more than willing to pay a little extra to have "instant" customer service.

More concisely, here is a bug description:

What I did:

1.  Switch my Ipod Spotify to offline mode.

2.  With my computer spotify online, create a playlist folder and drag several playlists into this folder.

3.  Switch my iPod out of offline mode, i.e., online.

4.  Start up Spotify on my iPod touch and login.  The old list of playlists is visible.  Spotify is non-responsive for about 3 seconds, and then suddenly quits.

Version information:

Spotify on my computer:  0.8.5.1333.g822e0de8

Spotify on my iPod touch:  App 0.5.9.10

Core:  0.7.1.6114

Only solution:  either always start up spotify mobile in offline mode or delete the app and reinstall it.

I expect this bug is easy to reproduce.  Hopefully it will be fixed by the Spotify team soon.  Thanks

I am having this exact same issue!  It is so annoying!  I make changes to my playlists and playlist folders constantly on my iMac (Mountain Lion).  Now the Spotify app crashes on two different iPods and an iPad!  The only thing that fixes it for me is to reinstall the app.  But I also have to re-offline all my songs again which takes hours to do.  Then if I make a change again, I have to start the whole process all over again!  Please fix this!  This has been happening for several weeks now.  I can't use any of my apps at all unless I reinstall them and with school, I don't have time to re-offline them so my subscription is a complete waste of money right now.

Got the same problem, really fix this right away!!!

Thanks for confirming that I'm not the only one with this issue.  Hopefully more people will post here and Spotify will fix this soon.  It's quite annoying.

Can add that problem is the same for both android and iOS, im running spotify on iPad 2 and a samsung galaxy s3.

on my galaxy i dont have to reinstall but i have to clear the cache.

Thanks.  Unfortunately, on the iPod there is no way to clear the cache.  Also, I've tried and shutting down the app and restarting it (by double clicking the round button, then clicking the red x at the corner of the app) and it still does not work on the iPod.

Any one know how to fix this issue?  It's still not solved.  Thanks

So no response from anyone?  Really?  Why am I not surprised?

This is still an issue! Is spotify doing something about this big problem for the premium members?

I can only listen to my music when I turn wifi off!! (that synched before the app collapsed)

Can it be because there is a limit for how many playlists/folders it can handle? If so, what is the limit and where can I find that information?

I have also, like the previous posters, tried to re-install several times, that works for maybe 1 or days, and then freeze and so on..

I've tried to upgrade to iOS 6.1 - nothing changed the problem 😞

Since a few weeks now everthing works as it should, try switching from online to offline a few times and see if that has any effect.

How to switch? I can enter the program but then it freezes and shuts down. Do you mean that I should turn on and off my router while I'm in the program? Sorry for not getting it 😉

dunno how it works on a ipod but try reinstall spotify after that it should start again
under spotify settings u have the online/offline mode change that back and forth and perhaps it will help u.

After i did this (to get my phone, samsung s3 to connect with spotify on my computer) both the ipad and the phone started to work as it should again.

It seems the only way to avoid the problem is to not rearrange playlists or use playlist folders in Spotify on the desktop.

I had to reinstall Spotify on my iPod to fix it recently.  The annoying thing is that each time I have to reinstall, I have to resync all my songs (which takes about 2 hours).

Yes you're right - I think the bug is somehow associated with the playlists/folders - it's not very useful if we can't rearrange - I do that a lot. Hope spotify fixes this soon!!

Thanks for answers!
