Great news! I have talked with the Spotify iOS devs and this should be coming in the next iOS update. If not in the next update, it will come in one shortly after.

Hey! Welcome to the community 🙂

It is not currently possible to sort or reorder playlists on iOS.

This is dicussed at great length over on the Ideas Exchange.

NEWBIE alert, 5 days in and I still I can't work out if this IOS update is with us? I want to rearrange my tracks because some songs don't play well next to each other...do they? As a newbie I have realised I have to star a track and add it to playlist when a more suitable slot becomes available...hmmmm, so any news or is my endless search for a problem out of date already?

Maybe it's true I simply am stupid or getting older or had too much fun when I was younger or something because I can't work it out?

@beanapod - Your not going mad, its still not possible to do in the most recent version of the iOS application.

Thanks Peter, I have no idea who you work for, but having trawled once again another forum related site for hours you seem to 'ping' up with a reply, so hats off to you. Although not resolving it's nice to know my affects are not wasted.

I have noticed on previous posts there was a link for notification of post, please can you let me in on the 'loop', or I guess I would be anyway via app store? (not sure)

Aside from above the only other confusing thing as a NEWBIE i find is this...as a paying customer, of a cost of £120.00 a year how can I learn how to download and save the music I have stored via your 'platform'? I was an early user of all things related to music downloads and social sites (prior facebook) but went off them due to the fact I lost (music etc) all things due to either computer change or provider change (sorry not up with the lingo), or indeed I just got bored.  I want to care about my music again but not if it means I will lose it at a touch of a button.

I am sure the above is the same for millions across the world. ZILLIONS!! (haha, soon)

I am wanting a site that allows me to get to my music of choice (which you do, horray) at a cost (if we must) but in a safe home, at least my home, without threat of the terrible powers that be, or risk of download from whom knows whom. Can you do this for me?

It's as though the apple is always just out of reach, is this still so, however small we go? I might be mistaken, I am sure there is a way, but as a NEWBIE prior to any exit ideas please advise me, I would be grateful.

Thanks, Beana, Just, Justine xxx

@beanapod - The best place to stay up to date with being able search/sort on mobile devices is to subscribe or keep an eye on this topic over on the ideas exchange since that is where the staff will likely post any updates.

As for me, I am a super user here on the Spotify community - but I don't work for Spotify. Just a fan of Spotify and music! 🙂

Since Spotify is a streaming service (not a download service) you are not allowed to download and store tracks for usage outside of Spotify - in fact there is a very tightly controlled system which prevents you from doing so. In reality its actually a good thing, since it means all track plays are counted so artists get fairly paid for listeners and it prevents piracy. With Spotify premium, you do get the ability to download and listen to tracks offline, but those are stored in an encrypted format so they can only be used inside the Spotify client.

Unfortunately, you are at the mercy of the record labels when it comes to keeping content on the service, but I myself have never had a problem of things going missing. For me, Spotify is very much about music discovery anyway, so if something did go missing - I am sure I could find something else to listen too! Its also worth being aware that if your premium subscription ends at any point, the client will automatically remove any offline content you have stored on your devices (due to licensing) but you can always redownload it in the future if you resubscribe (and you can always listen online with Spotify free) - your playlists will always remain on your account no matter what happens.

I hope that explains things a bit for you - if you have any other burning questions just ask 🙂

PETER!!

I hear you! I get it....when will it end?

I just want to get my hands on a large selection of tunes at a cost and carry on in my own little pocket community forever happy in the idea I made it - for me, just me and my tune legacy.!

Why do I want to own it it? Maybe because I have lost it all. Why is it a legacy? Because music is nothing if you don't share it (to a certain extent). Why share it, again and again..It's obvious, isn't it??

So? Where are we? A tune borrowing site, based on the idea the borrow could fold at any time. Not very reassurssing, is it?

Peter, please....

A. Pay money so everyone is happy (cool)

B. Pay enough so the artists get it (super duper cool)

C. Pay so there is choice ( so........cool)

D. Pay so we can keep..,..otherwise what are you paying for? (OMG)

E. Pay for add on... (you, you take a commission)

F. BUT NOT PAY TO BE RIPPED OFF. ( and over rode, feeeeedom pls)

I know I highlight the obvious, but it's still obvious. If you need a renewed mission/development statement this is it. iTS TIME, FOR A PAID MUSIC DOWNLOUD SITE....surely by now....

On-going. Justine.

@beanapod - I have just been informed by a member of the Spotify team you can manually change the order of tracks on iOS (wondering how I missed this being added!).

If you go to a playlist then press the "..." button in the top right, then select "Edit" you can manually drag songs to change the order 😉

@beanapod What Peter said is true - with Spotify you won't "own" the tracks you use with Spotify, so if you only want to own your music outright, you'll be out of luck. You're probably best sticking with iTunes/Amazon or buying CDs or your preferred form of music ownership.

But with Spotify Premium, you'll pay roughly the price of a new CD every month in exchange for having unlimited access to 20 million tracks online, and the ability to have a huge number of tracks offline at any one time too. We think that's a pretty great deal, and so do millions of existing Premium users!
