sharing via SMS doesn't open app

I've hunted for a little bit looking for a possible solution but was unable to find anything.

Issue: a friend sends a SMS share to me. I click the link and it takes me to the web browser for me to play the song or download the app. I already have the app so i just click the play button in the center of the browser. I am redirected to the app store to download the app bypassing the app that is already installed.

I am not able to play the song that was sent to me even after clicking open in the app store. Is it my phone that isn't allowing the SMS share to open correctly?

It will take you to the app store to download the app, if you have the app installed already, double tap the home button and go back to the safari page and click play - now it will bring you to the Spotify app.

Usually, it will bring you the app page to download the spotify app, so once you go back to the page to click play again, it will bring you to the spotify app and play your song.

Give that a shot!

An Spotify Music App prompt will display at the top of the screen

You have the option to either OPEN or X (exit), instead...

scroll down to the album (cover and songs are displayed), Click VIEW ON SPOTIFY. It will then play the specific song.

@ccrayl - did you ever find a better solution (than having the SMS-sent URL open a browser page, and then clicking on play to spawn the Spotify app)?

Nope. It still opens in the browser and wants to download the app or it will open the app but doesn't play the song.

  The method you suggested does work. However, that is several steps more then necessary. My friends are able to click the link, it starts to open in the browser but will open the app instead.

yeah ive been trying to figure this out FOREVERRRRR. when i used to share it via SMS with friends it would send me to my spotify app, no idea why it send me to the internet now instead

Claszacht, I have the same problem now. My buddy sent me a text with a song. I clicked it. It opened in Spotify. Now all the songs he sends get sent to safari and then ask if I wanna open the app.

Although, there was a little Spotify.com in the top right corner for me (iPhone 6s) and in accidentally hit that. And since then, that's when I haven't been able to open it directly into the app.

This worked for me. Click on link in SMS message, it will open safari. Swipe down on the page (below the URL, not above or it will refresh the page), and a banner appears asking to open in Spotify. Click OPEN.
