I recently discovered that a third-party app was using some Spotify accounts to sell streams, and this led me to understand the importance of managing third-party apps' access to my account. Here is how you can prevent this from happening to you.
First, access your Spotify account through your browser, whether on your PC or cell phone, and log in. Then go to "Account" > "Security and Privacy" > "Manage Apps". In this section, you will see a list of all apps that have access to your account. Remove access for anyone you don't know about or no longer use.
I only keep access to apps I use frequently, like Alexa and Amazon. Also, whenever you participate in trends that link your Spotify account, remember to remove access to these apps right after use. This will ensure that your account is always safe and protected from misuse.
To check if your account has been compromised, look for signs such as changes to your playlists, songs you don't recognize being played, or login notifications from unknown devices. If you suspect your account has been taken over, change your password immediately and follow the steps above to remove any unknown access.
You can check out a Spotify FAQ that contains more information about these cases at this link. Like it 🙂
Be careful, and enjoy your music!
Cheers,
