You can only sync files you have on your computer ('local content') and added to spotify, not streamed songs you added to a playlist. Spotify fails to communicate this to users, it is nowhere explained in the client. It says 'sync iPod with spotify' but it really should be saying 'sync the files you have in iTunes through this client'.

many thanks for responding! I had premium before, but I changed subscription and I have no idea of the features of the Spotify Unlimited package.....its nowhere displayed on the Spotify website.....and I have no clue what I can & can't do with it. I want to listen to music I collected in the playlist ideally on my ipod, but its still not clear if I can do this only with Premium?

advice would be appreciated

thanks!

You can only sync a song to your iPod if you have the .mp3 of it on your computer. You cannot sync regular spotify songs to your iPod, only play them in the client/mobile app/website.

oostcoast is correct, unless it is an iPod Touch, you can only sync local files to your iPod (shuffle/nano/classic/mini) just like with iTunes, not any content from Spotify.

I've also put together a subscription comparison table here:
