Available tracks differ by user

Solved!

Available tracks differ by user

Hello,

I always assumed that the tracks that are playable in Spotify are related to your location. Some tracks you can play in the UK, but not in The Netherlands. Has something to do with contract with label companies. I can understand that.

Now I wanted to send some tracks to a friend, but she can not play or even find them. We both live in The Netherlands. She gave me her password and I logged in with her account and I also could not find the tracks. How is that possible? I have an unlimited account and she has a Premium account. Futher all settings are the same.

One other thing, she has not connected her Facebook to her account and I did, but I can not imanage that would be the cause of the problem

Anyone any ideas?

Hey again 🙂

Are the tracks that you can find and she can't files that you have stored locally on your computer (sounds like they might be because of the greyed out artists names)?

If they are local files on your computer in a playlist, it is correct that she won't be able to play them. Can you try making unplayable tracks visable by unticking the option in Edit > Preferences > Playback. If she can see them on her client but they are greyed out, then they must be your local files on the playlist.

The Spotify music catalogue does differ per country, yes. However, it doesn't change if you're Unlimited or Premium, or have your account linked to Facebook.

Have you logged into both your friends account and yours on the same computer?

Who's your Spotify Star?

Just a quick note to point out that there could in fact be a country library difference here.

If your friend has a premium account, it could be registered in any country and still work. Are you 100% sure that her premium account is registered and paid for in the same country as yours?

You can check and see which country your Spotify account is registered in on your online profile.

Tnx 4 repying.
That's what I thought. I logged in with both account from the same internet connection. had them both open on 2 different computerss here at home.

Did some same searches and they both turned out very different results. If I search for specific tracks that I could find on her account I did not get any results.

I build a playlist with some tracks I coud find and shared it. If you open the playlist under her account it says it is empty.

Very strange

The country is the same. We are both listed as living in The Netherlands. Both our account are paid for. (her mobile app works, so it is working)

I do not understand it.

I must point out that most of the tracks she can not find are tracks with a hidden artist (artist is not clickable in the track row) But also I did find some that do have a visuable artist.

I just hope it is a clitch and it will turn out to work again.

HI Peter,
That is a good idea.
I checked under local files and noticed that Spotify loaded a lot of files.

To my knowledge I never did that, but that seems to be the cause of the difference. I never played my local files on Spotify because I use a player with better sound quality. But maybe the Mac version doet this automaticly. (I also do not use ITunes for my music)

Tnx for al the help.

Regards,
