Connected to a device, so can’t play off my phone. How to fix?

Connected to a device, so can’t play off my phone. How to fix?

I have a premium Spotify duo account and my wife has connected an Alexa at her work. Now, I can no longer listen to music on my own when she’s connected there as it always says “Listening on XX’s Echo.” It stops her music if I try to change back to my phone. How do we get around this?

Is it because my specific Spotify account (rather than her’s) is connected to our Amazon account?

Hey @BeauMc1,

Thank you for reaching out here in the Community.

If your account Spotify account is connected to the Alexa account, then this probably is the reason for the behavior you mentioned. The Duo subscription provide you with two separate accounts for the separate devices, but not with the ability to play different music with one account simultaneously on different devices. If you want to use your phone to play a different song than the one currently playing on the Alexa device, then you'll need to connect your wife's account to the Alexa device.

You can take a look at this support article to find more info on how to link another Spotify to the Alexa device.

Spotify should work well when each member of the family has their own Alexa account linked to their own Spotify account in order to be able to listen to Spotify on their respective devices.

Hope this helps. If you need anything else, the Community is here for you 🙂
