Email address on account

Basically, I want to change the email address associated with an account. Can the old email then open its own new account?

The reason is I want to take over an account that I shared which knows me very well at this stage.

To use an email address on a different account, you would need to close the account with the email you wish to use on your current account, following these steps. 

Then, you would have to wait 14 days to be able and use the email address.
