Spotify Tracks Playing Without Sound Until Multiple Restarts

Spotify Tracks Playing Without Sound Until Multiple Restarts

Hi,

I'm having a very frustrating problem with my Spotify that's been going on for a few weeks. Every time I open Spotify and try to play a track, it will play without any sound, no matter what track I try - local files, available offline or normal streamed tracks. I have to close and restart spotify a few times, and songs seem to only play if I double click on the "Your Music" tab to start it on shuffle. It seems like if I try to play a specific song, or press play too soon or too long after opening Spotify it won't play with sound! Either that or it requires x amount of restarts to work. I'm not sure what the magic formula is! But once I can get the first song to play, everything usually works fine, but sometimes it stops playing without sound again.

This only happens on my computer (Windows 7), I have the latest version of Spotify, I've checked every sound setting and it's not that, tried with and without speakers/headphones. It isn't a problem on my phone. I also have premium.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem is? It's driving me crazy!

Hey @hm26

Try a clean reinstall to see if that fixes the problem.

First uninstall Spotify and then delete these folders if they exist:

C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Spotify
and C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Spotify

After that reinstall Spotify

If you can't find the folder, try this:

Uninstall Spotify: Start > Control Panel > Programs / Uninstall a Program > Spotify
Find your AppData folder and delete all Spotify data.
Start, run, type: %appdata% and hit enter
You probably see 4 folders; enter each and see if they contain a folder called Spotify. Delete the entire Spotify folder.
Restart your computer at this point.
Reinstall Spotify (download)

no idea what the problem is, but starting to irritate me enough to probably give Apple music a try.  They have a free 3 month trial - maybe Spotify will finally step up their game with local file problems.  And just when they seem to fix it, their latest update normally screws it up in some way or another.

my problem is this is happening on my phone also happens on my desktop.  Reinstalling opens the door to all sorts of other problems - like just trying to see my local files in the "local files" playlist
