Spotify pulled a bait and switch on me with a gift care!

My daughter is a Premium subscriber with the student discount. I bought her a $60 gift card for her birthday and when she applied it to her account, it said it was worth 6 months. After the fact I was told that they only honor that for $30 when you have the student discount!

They can make whatever policies they want, but this wasn't mentioned

• on the Target page where I bought the card
• on Spotify's gift card page
• on the student discount page
• on the extra terms and conditions page linked to from the student discount page

How was I supposed to know what the policy was when I purchased the card?

You definitely bought a gift card and not an e-card? I only ask because e-cards are for one to 12 months of premium at a fixed price whereas gift cards are isuued for a redeemable value.

Hmmm.........can I suggest that your daughter gets in touch with them using the contact form. It is her account so maybe they will only discuss with her. 

If she gets an automated response directing her back to the community or to the help pages, she should reply to it to speed things along.

Did you hear back from support?

Unfortunately, it's the same in the UK where we have had student discount for some time. Gift and eCards (like almost all pre-paid cards) are redeemed for services not their cash value, so if you redeem a $60 card, it will give you 6 months of premium not the cash value of the card redeemed against your account.
