Unable to add payment method / "Please select a payment provider"

Hi, been using spotify premium/unlimited for many months now and never had this problem. When trying to renew the subscription the following message appears: "Please select a payment provider". However, it doesn't let me do that as usual and the following message appears:

 

Change payment method
You are currently registered as being in Country pt. If you intend to use a payment method in another country, you need to change your countryto match.

 

Also, can't change the country (and it's listed Austria for some reason, i'm from Portugal).

 

Can you please help me pay? Thank you.

Hi,

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but due to licensing laws we can no longer take any 'new' subscriptions from the ROI. This includes updated card info.

We'd love to be available to everybody, but I can't say if or when we'll be available in Ireland just yet.

JamesHoran - I'm afraid only those in our launch countries will be able to update payment details. This is mainly due to our licensing agreements we have in place.

Who's your Spotify Star?

Hi Sam - I've been using Spotify Premium in Ireland for years - why has it suddenly stopped taking payments from my credit card? I started using it very early before it was 'banned' from Ireland. Any work-around, or am i locked out of Premium now?

I'd be interested in knowing this too. I have been using Spotify happily for years and am dreading the thought of going to work without my premium account 😞

I understand that you don't want users constantly changing their country, however, your page about changing country says it will allow you to change your country based on your IP address, my country says Germany but I'm in the USA.....I get no such ability to change the country, why is it locked in such a way? do your servers have some sort of glitch? if I decide I want premium I cant use it because the address on my credit cards and my paypal are all US addresses

Hi wildsprite - If you've got a credit card registered in the US all you need to do is change/ update your payment details via the subscription page.

 

This will automically change your country settings to the US. You'll then be able to upgrade your account. Give us a shout if you have any trouble making that update. 

I tried that, it keeps rejecting the 2 cards I have and my paypal account

when I try the credit cards it rejects them and I have checked with my provider, they say they arent even getting a query for them, when I try paypal I get "Could not update paymant details, Sorry, we could not update your payment details"

 

okay I didnt see where it said "if you intend to use a payment method from a different country you need to change your country" and the spot to click it, I feel like a dope for that but now I got it to work, thanks

vairish - if you have friends or family in the UK, you can use their credit card and address, if you can transfer the tenner every month to them. It's a hassle but means you can continue Premium until Spotify operates here in Ireland.. whenever that will be! 

Same problem here in Belgium. After months without any trouble, now I can't pay with Paypal neither with Credit card. There is enough credit available because other payments are goiing without trouble?

Any solution because I depart on vacation in a couple of days and I want to have music on the road.

I'm having a problem similar to wildsprite's. Or the same problem, rather. It's somewhat of a Catch-22. Spotify doesn't let you change your country until you've entered payment details. However, I can't enter any payment details to do this because I live in the US (and therefore have a US paypal account) and my Spotify account shows Germany as my country. I can't change my country because I can't enter payment details because I can't change my country...etc etc.

birdseye - I can see you were able to make that upgrade just this morning. Hopefully you're back enjoying your Premium already.

 

seatuttle - You should be able to change your country settings to the US with either a credit card or with your PayPal details. 

 

When you go to your subscription page you should see a link that reads: "If you intend to use a payment method from a different country you need to change your country".

 

If you're not seeing this option to upgrade from another launch country let us know. Attaching a screenshot of your subscription page would be a great help.  

 

 

Wow, I can't believe I missed that link! I was always looking under "Edit profile" and the country drop-down menu is greyed out there. Thanks for your help!

Yes Meredith, everything is working back again now. Still don't now what went wrong but I'm happy it works again.

If you ever have payment problems again it's worth check out our FAQ page here. It outlines all the requirements your card needs to meet in order to work on our site. 

My card expires at the end of the month and I have the updated card but it won't let me update the payment method!! It keeps telling me the zip code is wrong.  I am pretty sure my zip code has not changed in the past year and I really don't want to lose my subscription because of some weird glitch or whatever the heck is going on!!! Please HELP!!
