Username already in use

I was just now trying to make a Spotify account. However, every username I can come up with is 'already in use' even something random like 'lihfgjhgdjyhdfkjhf'. Now this seems very unlikely to me. What could be wrong here? 

I can't contact Spotify as I need an account for that.... 

So I made this post and got linked to a page where I was asked to make an account and it actually worked.
