While changing country, email address suddenly taken

When I tried logging in, spotify prompted me to change my country so I went ahead and tried changing my country (fair enough I've been in a different country for around a month now). At the account screen while I was changing my country, my email address is now suddenly taken. This is the only account I know which uses this address. I even successfully reseted my Spotify password for this email address, however the same problem still persists. When I use an alternative email address I'm able to successfully change my counrty and use the account. 

I would like to use the email address I intend to use, any ideas on how I can get this fixed?

I also want to say that the alternate email I used is very old and I've forgotten the login details for that email. I wasn't asked for email confirmation, so I have no idea how Spotify is authenticating these email changes. Either case I would really like to just use my original email address for this account.
