login error 409 on an old iPhone 4 (MC603ZP)

Solved!

login error 409 on an old iPhone 4 (MC603ZP)

Hi, I have a "Duo" package for my wife and myself, and now we have resurrected my wife's old iPhone 4 for our 7 year old daughter so that she can listen to music. I have used my own login credentials (the super long user name) and the password (which works on every other device we use) but I constantly get a login failure with the code 409. Can anyone please help? Thanks!

Hey there! Happy to help.

You will need to use an iPhone running at least iOS 14 for the app to run optimally. The latest version of the iPhone 4 is iOS 7. Unfortunately, Spotify won't be able to guarantee support for your device which may be why you're getting that error message. There is more information about this here

Hope this clears things up!

Hi everyone,

We want to clarify what is happening and why. Currently all support for Spotify app versions released in 2016 and older is being deprecated. This includes:

  • App version released before 7.4.0 on iOS and Android
  • App version released before 1.0.47 on desktops

At Spotify, we are always working to provide our users with the best possible listening experience. We continuously encourage users to use the latest version of Spotify as it contains the newest features and bug fixes. For more information, see our Support pages.

Older versions of the app often have broken or missing features due to their old interface, which cannot support the latest Spotify experience. In addition some of these old apps have security vulnerabilities associated with underlying older technologies. These vulnerabilities are not available on the latest versions of the app and can only be eliminated by shutting down services built with older technologies.

If you are using a device which can no longer support the latest app and operating version, then we recommend you use the Spotify web option https://open.spotify.com/ in your browser on your device, if supported.

We appreciate your feedback regarding this deprecation and we've passed it along to the right teams at Spotify.

Same here, iPhone 4 login error 409. Started today. Used to work (slow)

Spotify closed their access on apps that were released before 2015, including the Spotify on older iOS.

I have an iPod Touch 4, and it had the same problem. Uniquely, it's still able to download some playlist yesterday.

Same here, problem only started today. On an old ipod touch, version 5.1.1. Any solutions? Error 409 message also

Same exact issue here, on a 4th Generation iPod Touch.  It worked earlier this morning, booted me out at some point near the middle of the day, and then keeps giving me a Spotify Login Failed - Error Code 409 message.  Even with resetting my password, it will not let me use the app anymore.  Very frustrating since this is a device I use in my elementary school teaching, every single day.

Ok, I just wasted my time jailbreaking my old iPhone 4s, hyped to use Spotify on iOS 6 only to find this?!

also, why today? Why not in like a week?!?!?!??!!??

Same on my iphone 5 iOS 9.2... It is just stupid by Spotify, really. I literarily last week degraded myself to an iPhone 5 on schooldays so i wouldn't get too distracted from school, and it is now completely unfunctional. The ONE app i needed. Apple music it is, then?

Edit: it stopped working for me at 16:15 Oslo Time (+1hr)

Apple Music here I go

Yeah turns out Spotify wasn't even supported anymore but it still worked, it's really bad though because a lot of people still use old phones just for Spotify premium... Should get fixed imho ¯\_( ͠° ͟ʖ °͠ )_/¯

Btw, i use an iPhone 4s for Spotify, and i have premium too.

Honestly this is super upsettting as a premium user. Even SoundCloud still works. This was the only reason I hadn't switched to Apple Music, now I've lost my last reason to stick with spotify.

is it just ipod touch 4 gen that cant be used or can i update my ipod in general to see if that fixes the issue

same here, dedicated ipodtouch user and can no longer login to my spotify account. Please fix this immedieatly.

Same thing as well! Been using an iPhone 4 for music for the past 8 years, and now suddenly it breaks. So fun!

Trying to listen on the app on an old iPhone 4 version. Apparently it changed yesterday January 23rd. 2023 to a non connectable source.

Wow so I guess that Spotify cleaned house yesterday as this happened to me out of the blue on my old iPhone 5 that I use for my Spotify Premium account. It's slow but it's been synching my playlists etc. I'm paying for my account!!!! Please fix this!

Same Problem here. Old iPhone as MusicStation for the kids and getting this error 409.

Same for me. And faffed about a lot with passwords etc before finding it was a Spotify issue, not me. Please fix asap. I do pay for a service.

Same here. My kid uses our old iPad, mostly for music on Spotify and some other apps that still work on it. This is ridiculous! Please fix, Spotify!
