[Android] Updating app changes location of offline cache

[Android] Updating app changes location of offline cache

I have observed the same irritating behaviour on my Android phone a number of times now when I have updated the app to the latest version, the most recent occurence being today.

I use an external SD card for for my media storage and have Spotify save my offline cached files there.    Recently, when I have updated the spotify app via the play store, I found that I had lost access to my offline files.   Downloading them again, saves them to my internal storage.   The only work arround I have found is to uninstall the app, re-install it again and download my offline files again.   Given the frequency of updates to the app this is highl irritiating and annoying.

Am I the only one to experience this ?    Is there a way of applying updates such that the location of the offline cache is not changed ?

My Phone is a Samsung S5 running Android 5.0, Kernal 3.4.0-5683839
