Android app crashes and stutters during playback in offline mode when GPS app in use

Android app crashes and stutters during playback in offline mode when GPS app in use

Description
Please describe the problem
Example:
When I use the android spotify app on my phone in offline mode it will constantly stutter during playback. I've noticed this problem only occurs when I am using another app on the phone at the same time and especially if the GPS is running.

I have uninstalled all apps on the phone and tried to also factory reset the phone and do another fresh install of spotify. The issue persisted.

What are the steps you took to get to the error/issue?
1. Installed spotify
2. Downloaded a playlist with about 10 songs on
3. Opened Strava app and turn GPS on
4. Start recording ride/run
5. Open spotify in offline mode
6. Click play to begin playback
7. Begin cycling or running
8. Immediately I hear the playback stutter
9. Adjusting the volume clears the issue temporarily
10. After about 5 mins the quality is too bad to continue listening
11. Sometimes the app will switch to the dialler and call the last person who called me.
12. Sometimes the app crashes completely

What I expected to happen
This is what I expected to happen, for the app to allow offline playback when only 1 other is running in the background

Hi. Could you update to spotify 0.6.6 to see if it fixes this for you?

Hi joe, thanks for the reply, sorry but the problem persists. I just upgraded this morning and retested it.

Thanks for the update. I suspect that running both apps is pushing the phone too far in terms of processor speed. All I can suggest is to make sure that you have closed all other running apps to see if it makes any improvement.

It used to work fine...has something changed with the memory management of the android app that could have affected things? Is the a way I can manually install an old version of the app to see if that helps?

Is there anything else to try. Before I did my factory reset I tried out a task killer app to stop any background process from running but to no avail.

Thanks
Ben

An old version of the app is available from m.spotify.com. If those apps used to work fine together, it 's worth getting some direct support from Spotify. Use the online contact form and someone at Spotify will try to help. If you get an automated reply, make sure to reply to it directly (even though it says not to) to speed things along.

Thanks I've sent a question via that form.
