Bluetooth controls do not work until app is force stopped and restarted

Bluetooth controls do not work until app is force stopped and restarted

After connecting Bluetooth headphones (Jabra 75t) pause/play and skip/previous track buttons do not work until app is closed and restarted.  Even more frustrating, this problem re-occurs after a random period of time, and the app is required to restart again.

I initially thought this was an issue with the headphones, however all other media app (youtube, Google play music etc.) function completely fine with Bluetooth controls, only Spotify has problems.

I saw a similar post around a month ago, which Spotify claimed to have fixed in their latest update, but it seems not, at least in my case.

I have tried factory resetting earbuds, reinstalling earbud firmware, clearing Spotify data/cache, restarting device, reinstalling Spotify, reverting Spotify version number, excluding Spotify from power saving. Unfortunately issue persists.

Hey there @HDragons

Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community, and welcome.

Could you let us know the exact Spotify version you're currently running?

Also, would you mind sending over a screen recording where we can take a better look at this issue? Just attach it to your next response to us by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. You can also send us a link to it, just make sure to exclude any personal info from the video.

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

The Spotify version is 8.6.2.774

I've attached a screen recording of Spotify not pausing despite me pressing pause on the Bluetooth controls. However given the type of issue, this will probably not provide any insightful information.

Hey @HDragons

Thanks for getting back to us and sending this info.

Just to confirm, did you follow these steps when reinstalling the app?

If possible, could you try logging into your account using a different device to see if you can replicate this behavior with your headphones?

Keep us posted!

Hi Novy,

Yes, those are the steps I took to reinstall the app.

I tried to replicate this issue using my headphones on another android phone, but was unable to. It seems this problem o my occurs on my phone. What may you suggest I do?

Hi @HDragons

Thanks for your reply.

Could you let us know the make, model and OS version currently running on the other Android phone you mentioned?

Also, would you mind letting us know if you notice anything new with a different internet connection?

We'll be right here.

Hello,

My phone is an LG V30, model number LG-H930

OS is android version 8.0.0

There doesn't seem to be any change with a different internet connection.

Thank you for your help.

Hi again @HDragons

Apologies if there was any confusion.

We're currently looking for the info on the second device where you mentioned that you weren't able to replicate the issue.

We'd also suggest making sure that your main device has no pending system updates.

Keep us in the loop.

Hello,

I have managed to solved the issue myself by reverting back to Spotify version 8.5.89.901.

Therefore, it seems this issue was caused by a recent Spotify update.

Hey @HDragons

Thanks for keeping us posted.

We'd only recommend downloading the Spotify version currently distributed through the official stores.

If you need further help with the new app version that has this issue, don't hesitate to let us know. We'll be right here.

Cheers!

Hi, I am currently using Android 7.1 and the latest Spotify app. When I connect my Android phone to my car using the KM28 Bluetooth receiver or when using my Shure SE215 IEMs the Bluetooth controls do not work. To get them to work I must first open the app, then close it then the controls will work for only a few minuets. I have confirmed this is isolated to the mobile version as I have connected my laptop with Spotify to both of these Bluetooth devices and the controls work fine. FIX THIS. I am getting sick and tired of Spofity breaking stuff, last version was downloaded music / local files always missing, and now this, test your apps better before you update them.

Hey there @jbwalters22,

Thanks for posting on this thread. We're sorry to hear that you're experiencing this issue, but no worries, we're happy to help.

Just to confirm, did you already try a clean reinstall of the app by following these steps?

If that didn't make any difference, could you try using a different mobile device to see if this behavior persists? This would help us narrow down the possible cause of the issue.

We'd also like to know the exact Spotify version you're running, along with the make, model and OS version of yours and the other mobile device you try.

Keep us posted. We'll be looking out for your reply.

Fixed the issue by deploying an old STABLE version of Spotify using Comodo One. The version that I deployed was 8.5.89.901. as well and works great. I DO NOT PLAN ON UPDATING FROM THIS VERSION IF EVERYTHING WORKS, AS SPOTIFY CANT SEEM TO TEST APPS.
