My Question or Issue

I can't like or unlike any songs. I also can't pin or unpin playlists.

I have tried doing a clean uninstall, resetting my phone, logging out of all devices, and I still have the same problem

Hi there @Crownrock,

Thanks for the post.

Can you let us know when this started happening - after an app or OS update, or just out of nowhere?

What you can try at the moment is to create a new free account for test purposes and try liking songs on there - does it work on the new account?

Looking forward to your reply.

It came out of nowhere. It's not the first time, but uninstalling and reinstalling always worked before.

I'll try the free account later today and get back to you.

Sorry, had a busy week. But the free account let me like/unlike songs just fine.

Hey there @Almurzan

Thanks for reaching out about this here in the Community.

Would you mind logging in to your account on a different mobile devices to check if the same happens?

Also, could you let us know if the same happens using a different internet connection?

Lastly, we suggest that you log out and then log back in again, but this time twice in a row. We know this sounds odd, but it will trigger a sync between your device and your account.

We'll be on the lookout.

I don't have another mobile device available to use. My kids (the other users on the family plan) are out of state visiting family. But I am able to like songs on the PC and Xbox apps.

I have already tried on different Wi-Fi connections and using mobile data, and the problem persists regardless of connection.

Hey @Crownrock

Thanks for your quick reply 🙂

No worries, there're also a few other things we can try. Could you make sure that Spotify has all necessary permissions enabled?

  1. Open your Settings menu.
  2. Scroll to the bottom to find Spotify and open the app settings.
  3. Enable everything you see.

It's also a good idea to exclude the app from any Battery optimization software that might be active on your smartphone.

Additionally, would you mind checking if the OS of your phone has any pending updates?

We'll be waiting for your reply.

I already had the permissions on, battery saver excluded, and no pending updates.

I did check again to make sure.

Hi there @Crownrock

Thank you for your reply and for the troubleshooting you've done so far. Great job!

Can you let us know how you usually like/pin songs and playlists? If you have, can you try the 3-dot menu in the  Now playing view and swiping?

You  can also try switching Your Library view from list to grid or vice versa.

On another note, we need to know exactly what's happening to come up with a solution, so a video or some screenshots would be helpful 🙂

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Take care!

Live, love, laugh and listen to music 🙂

I have tried hitting the heart in the mini player at the bottom, the mini player in my notifications, the album view, and by hitting the three dot menu. Hitting like in the three dot menu will close the menu, but won't actually like the song. The other three methods do nothing at all.

I tried switching between grid and list views, and got no response at all on pinning/unpinning. If I open a menu to pin/unpin, tapping the option drops me out of the menu, but doesn't change anything.

Also, I just noticed that another one of my playlists somehow got pinned since the last time I checked. I didn't choose to pin it, and I don't want it pinned. I don't know exactly when or how it happened.

Hey @Crownrock,

Thank you for providing the screenshots for us!

The behavior of the App that you're describing seems very odd. We still think there could be some cached files on your phone that interfere with Spotify's performance. It'd be good to clear them from the app's settings and from your phone's settings (Settings > Apps > Find Spotify in your list of apps > Tap it and clear the storage, including the cache and data). Give your device a quick restart after that and see if it will make a difference.

If nothing of the above helps, send us a short video of your experience and let us know the exact Spotify version you're currently running (look here for more info how to check it), so we can investigate the situation further.

Keep us in the loop here.

Back in August when I was having this problem, I just gave up. I got tired of fighting this problem.

I just got a brand new phone this week (A Galaxy S8), just installed Spotify, and after two days of normal usage I am having the exact same problem again. Everything is exactly as described above with my old phone.

I'm not going to try to fix this, so don't bother walking me through the troubleshooting. I just don't care anymore. I don't use the like button anymore, and I ignore these useless playlists that the app has decided to pin for me. I just want it be known that this problem still exists.

Hey @Crownrock,

Thanks for getting back to us.

We're sorry to hear that the issue persists on your new device. However, if it's not present on a new free account, then your current one seem the most likely culprit. In this case, it's best to reach out to the folks over at Customer Support and request help with transferring over your content to the new account (feel free to use this thread as reference).

Take care,
