Have you tried formatting the card in your device? What andrroid are you using?

It's a sdxc 64gb, and was originally formatted to exfat but formatted it to fat32 with 32kb clusters, and tried to give it 64kb clusters instead and gained a few MB better read and write.

But it seems like spotify cannot recognize it this time as it usually do.

And why can't it even read the internal 16gb sdcard it has?

It's android 4.3

It sounds like spotify is seeing the card but can't access it because of the file system. Try reformatting it to standard FAT 32. If you want to use internal storage, remove the external SD card then reinstall and run spotify to have it create the cache on internal storage then reinsert the external card.
