Cannot send message to or share music with another user

Solved!

Cannot send message to or share music with another user

Hello,

I'm using the Android app version 1.5.0.739 & my Android is 4.4.2.

Here is my problem: I try to send a music track on Spotify to another user. I "click" on the three dots beside the track's name and the "Share" > "Send to". I enter the user's username, my message... and the "Send" button won't activate; can't "click" on it.

Is this a known issue?

Thank you very much in advance,
Sam.

Hey there!

Sorry I took so long, here is the final answer:

It's true this feature was available in the past to send messages to your friends with accounts signed in with Spotify Credentials, but at present it is working only with usernames of linked-to-Facebook Accounts.

I'm sorry this feature is not available any more.
It sounds like a great idea to take it back, thanks for sharing! Please feel free to share it on our ideas board at http://community.spotify.com/t5/Spotify-Ideas/idb-p/ideaexchange

You can get other users to show their support by voting on the idea. We’ll keep everyone updated on its status. Maybe your idea could even make it into the app some day!

So I did a little research in the ideas board and, as it turns out, another user already expressed the need to be able to share music with non-Facebook users: http://community.spotify.com/t5/Spotify-Ideas/Sharing-a-song-in-Spotify-with-non-Facebook-users-mobi...

I'm going to back him up and keep my fingers crossed...

Take care,

Sam.

Hi, yeah I believe there's currently an issue with sharing at the moment. Not sure how long for or when it will be fixed, maybe contact Support using the form in my signature if you are keen for updates.

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for the answer. I got in touch with the Support team. Here is part of their answer:

Thanks for getting in touch. I'm sorry you're experiencing this trouble.
It should be working as you say. You're doing the right thing.

Could you please send a screenshot of this issue happening? That will be great feedback for our specialised team to track the issue and sort it out.

In the meanwhile, it will help to reinstall the app in your Android and clear the cache.
This will desynchronise your offline playlists, but it's worth a try.

I sent a screenshot. I'm waiting a bit before uninstalling my app.

Have a good day, I'll stay in touch,
Sam.

Good stuff. Please come back and keep me up to date.

Also, as you are on android 4.4.2 please use the clean install guide linked in my signature as it's updated more and also contains additional steps/information.

I have that same problem, though I know I downloaded the application, and those I know have it too, I can't send a new message to anyone, I can only reply if they contact me, it's a one way street, how do I correct that?

Richard Uhlman

Has this been resolved at all? I do not want my Facebook account attached to my Spotify account.  It is ridiculous that we cannot send messages or share music with another user.  I have a Samsung Galaxy s5, everything else seems to work fine.

Same here.

Hello Spotify!

Are you about to enable the non-facebook users to share music on mobile devices or is this privilege for facebook users only?

This still doesn´t work for me? I can´t seem to send any messages with my Spotifyfriends anymore 😞 How come!??

Well, I can share music with neither Spotify users nor Facebook friends. In short, I am unable to share music with anyone. I can share songs to my Facebook profile and that's about it. Curiously, when I first installed Spotify on my Android 4.2.2 phone (in June), I was able to add several Facebook friends, and they're still visible in my Friends feed in the desktop add. However, I cannot add new friends or share with the existing ones.

same here. I used to have a facebook account and linked with spotify. Some time ago I deleted my facebook account. I can send messages or share songs/albums with people who I added when I was on facebook. But I can't send anything to new users who I recently added based on their spotify id.

In the Windows desktop application the name doesn't show up when I partly or completely write down their name or spotify id. In the Linux desktop application it loads a very long time when I try to send and at some point the share window disappears without an error message (but nothing is sent). In the android app the send button is greyed out and nothing happens when I type anything in the recipient box.

Too bad, because sharing music is so much fun and I think this is a true limitation of using spotify right now.

Still doesnt work... Whatsup!?

I have the same problem for months ! impossible to share music without facebook. Usernames are not found

I have subscribed sportify and not deezer because my friends were on spotify

bad choice if I cannot share music !

When the bug will be corrected ?

this is still true of mobile app and desktop versions. I have friends not connected through facebook - there is no reason I shouldn't be able to send them music. please fix!

I also would like to be able to send messages with music to all my friends on spotify. It is a good way to recommend music.

Dark Dude, FBs sharing used to work, right?  Why can't anyone seem to understand our plight?  I just zapped my iPhone (iOS 8.3)  entirely and restored.  Hard to imagine Spot would allow this problem to persist.  Sharing must be crucial to its business model.

Sending made exclusively for Facebook +Linked accounts is utterly stupid .No one likes it .Bad Idea Spotify. You've just made it worse .

It's been over a year yet they weren't able to bring the feature back. What's happening? Why we should link our facebook on spotify to be able to send a private message?

Why?

This is just sheer laziness on the part of the developers. I don't have a Facebook account (there are still a few of us) but I would like to be able to message my friends. Spotify's disinterest in ironing out the bugs in their apps is the only reason I don't pay for the service.
