My Question or Issue

The Canvas feature is right there in my app's settings, but it's dimmed– it's impossible to tap on it or to toggle it on or off, and the Canvas feature isn't working on my phone at all because of this. It was working perfectly fine a week ago, and my family members are all on Android 13 as well (different phones, though) and the Canvas feauture works perfectly fine on their devices and the toggle in their settings page works fine as well and it isn't dimmed. My app is updated to the latest version, I've tried clearing cache, clearing data, a clean reinstall, several phone restarts, and nothing has worked so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated since this is one of my favorite features on the app!

Hi Vasil,

I forgot to mention that "Save Data" from the app was already off because of a previous problem with Canvas. Battery optimization was not the issue. The problem was the "Data saver" from Samsung settings. I always use it on, but for some reason Spotify app started to consider this setting to enable/disable Canvas. I added an exception for Spotify on "Allowed to use data while data saver is on".

Thanks.

Hey there @nadaa,

Thanks for your reply.

Make sure the Save Data option is off from the Settings of the Spotify app as well as your device's Network/Connection Settings. Additionally, try turning off any battery optimization option. Now, you mentioned performing a clean reinstall, however, we recommend trying a reinstall with these specific steps, in case you haven't tried it yet.

On another note, as you mentioned Canvas works with your account on a different device, then this might be something related to your own device. To make sure, ask someone else to log in with their account from your phone and check if the feature works.

Lastly, send over the Spotify version you are currently running.

We'll keep an eye out for your reply!

My Question or Issue

I was able to toggle canvas mode on and off before but yesterday it just disabled itself to where I can't anymore. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Spotify so it's up to date and it's still not working.

Hey @nadaa,

Thanks for posting in the Community.

As a start, could you try using your account on one of the Family member devices? Does Canvas work there?

Are you connected to a WiFi or a mobile data network as you try to toggle the Canvas option? If on a mobile network, could you turn the data saver off?

Keep us posted.

Cheers!

Hi!

I just tried using my Spotify account on a family member's device (Galaxy A73) and Canvas was working perfectly fine on there. It still isn't working on my device, though.

I've double checked several times and data saver isn't on. Neither is offline mode. What could be the problem?

Hi again!

I apologize for the late reply, I've had a very busy week, but the good news is that Canvas seems to be working now! I did another reinstall with the aforementioned steps, and I found that the data saver in my phone's own settings was on so I turned that off, and so far it's working! I'm guessing the data saver was the culprit.

Thank you so much for your help in figuring this out!

Hi. Canvas is disabled on the app and I cannot enable it. I have already reinstalled Spotify. Is it a known issue?

My Question or Issue

Canvas are not available any-more. The "enable canvas" option is greyed out.
I've been looking online for a solution, tried everything:

1-Updated version of Spotify. Nothing changed.
2-Clear cache. Nothing changed.
3- Log out and Log in again, Nothing changed.

4- As mentioned, enable Canvas in Settings is greyed out.

5-I don't have Data Saver, it's off.
6-Complete uninstall and install again, Nothing changed.

Hey @cytk,

Thanks for your reply.

We really appreciate you keeping us in the loop. We’re happy to know you could sort this out. Don't hesitate to reach out if the app starts to behave again.

And @dedelandia, could you check the settings @cytk has mentioned and let us know if anything changes?

My Question or Issue

For several months I had canvas enabled and it was working perfectly. Then all of a sudden canvas stopped working, and when I go to the settings to enable it, it appears disabled and grayed-out so I cannot interact with it. I do not think this is a region issue since it was working before, and I have already tried updating the app, clearing data and cache, turning data saver off, relogging to my account, and updating and restarting my phone. This is really frustrating and canvas is a very important feature for me. Please let me know if this is a known issue and if there is a fix.

Turns out it had to do with my phone's data saver setting. I had turned off data saver in the Spotify app, but not on my phone. Once I turned it off on my phone as well, the canvas option was enabled.

It would be nice if Spotify provided a reason within settings for having a certain option unavailable, so we could instantly see what is causing the issue. Anyway, I hope this helps others with the same issue.

My Question or Issue

As I mentioned in the title, I can't enable the canvas feature. I've already checked if the data saving is turned off.

I'm currently using Spotify version 8.8.92.700.

Note: Problem solved by turning off my phone's Data Saver option.
