Chromecast audio wont connect

Chromecast audio wont connect

  • Foolishly just upgraded Android to 8.4.32.623 armV7.

Now Chromecast Audio wont connect. When I try I hear the connect notification bleep, but spotify just keeps hanging on "connecting" till it times out and just goes back to "devices available".

Any fix anyone? Already rebooted, poweroff/on both devices.

TIA.

Well, I'm having the same problem today (Dec 25). I have multiple Chromecasts (all v1), and I've tried various devices (web player, Android, iPhone, Chromebook). All have the same results when I try casting. TV screen goes blank, never get the Spotify logo, and then eventually disconnects. Tried rebooting everything, etc. This worked a couple of days ago for me.

Update. Just tried casting to my chromecast audio using Google Play. Worked just fine. Screenshot_2017-12-25-14-16-49.png

Android version attached.

uninstall reinstall failed. problem remains. says connecting, beeps connect sound, hangs, then goes back to devices avaiable w.o connecting to it.

I also have no issues with casting any other apps, only Spotify. Also, Chrome tab mirroring works fine, but when I open the spotify web page, I get the same issue -- screen goes black and eventually disconnects.

This seems to be working again.

I am able to cast using the Spotify Web Player - but the windows laptop APP doesn't cast either. Same symptoms - seems to think it is connected but doesn't turn the chromecast audio on.

Mine is working now too. Dunno what changed, but it's on. Would be nice if Spotify lets us know what the deal was - would like to know an issue was definitely identified and resolved before I recommend this service to friends. I'd like to feel secure that end users don't hafta be network engineers just to put on some music.

The vast majority of my Spotify usage is casting from the Web Player to my Chromecast. I was really displeased today when I tried casting Spotify to Chromecast repeatedly only to yield blank output with no error messaging or official notice from Spotify.

During this outage, I ended shuffling between other streaming services -- namely Amazon Prime Music and Google Play Music -- to get my fix. I'm now heavily considering cancelling my paid (!) Spotify subscription considering that this outage has occurred with no explanation or apology from Spotify.

An easy mitigation for this issue would be to offer customers the option to cast the Web Player to the Chromecast directly from the browser (i.e., without loading the Spotify Chromecast app). This could be an option that's flaggable in the advanced settings. This kind of option would have held many customers over while the Spotify Chromecast app was fixed.

It was enormously frustrating that Spotify was completely unusable from the Chromecast from several hours on Christmas Day. Perhaps avoiding software pushes on or around major holidays would also be a good idea...
