My Question or Issue

This is probably a simple question but no replies to previous questions have so far helped. How do i delete downloaded albums from my phone?

The only option on the app seems to be to delete cache which doesn't remove the downloads. (It seems from older posts that previous versions of the app had the option to remove saved data which the current version doesn't).

I could go on to my phones settings and under spotify storage and click "clear storage" but this would delete all the apps data. Not really what i want. Surely there must be a way of deleting just the download content preferably with the ability to choose which albums to delete?

If anyone can help with this i would be very grateful. It seems like a basic operation a lot of users would need/want to do but i can't figure out how to do it.

Also, as an aside, why does this happen:- I download an album to my library to play offline in the car by clicking the Download button (located just under "shuffle Play" button) All fine, but now the Download button has changed to say downloaded and if i click this off the album disappears from my library. Ok now i know not to flick this button off but it just makes no sense to me.

Hey there @philcratch

Thanks for reaching out - we’re here to help!

In order to manage your downloaded content you need to open the Spotify mobile app and go to Your Library.

Once you've opened the album or playlist you wish to download, simply switch on the toggle button saying Download located under the green Shuffle Play button. The content will start downloading and you'll see the progress bar. To delete downloaded contents, just toggle off the download switch and the content will be removed from the storage of your device.

If you're not able to reproduce these steps, check out this help page in order to find out how to perform a clean reinstall on your mobile device. This way you can start afresh with Spotify on your device and the download feature will start behaving as expected.

Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

Hello Ivan,

I have a question pertaining to this subject.  I have downloaded over 4,000 songs from Spotify - and counting - on my Google Pixel phone.  Now, I am out of storage space on my phone.  Is the best option for me to delete all my downloads and start  listening to Spotify online, potentially costing me mobile data (if I can't access WiFi)?

Are there any better options?

Is it not possible to download/delete download for certain songs from an album? I only see the download option for the entire album. I’m on my premium free trial and the interface is not user friendly at all so far.

Hey there folks,

Thanks for your questions.

@chandail, have a look at this thread where other users discuss how to Undownload albums. On the mobile version you can simply click the Download switch so it becomes gray, after that clean your cache and those downloaded songs should be gone from your phone. You can also have a look at this article for some info on how to change your download location to an SD card, so you'll have more space. Also, when you're listening to music while connected to Mobile data or Wi-Fi, you can still listen to downloaded songs without using your data.

@Dee000, you can download only whole albums currently. You can check out this New Idea and add you +Vote to it if you like. If you think other users might also like a change in the app, go ahead and create an idea on the relevant idea board. We always take new ideas and feedback into consideration to improve the app. Here you can read more on how ideas work.

We also suggest checking this help article for useful tips on how to submit an idea. As a heads-up, it's good to know that the higher the number of votes an idea gets, the more likely it is for the idea to be implemented :slightly_smiling_face:

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any more questions.

If you want to delete an album from your phones memory that you've downloaded, don't you have to delete the cache after you untick the download button.

You didn't explain this!!!

I only picked this tip up after reading Alex the moderators comments on this subject.
