Hi there @ViperSniper,

Welcome to the Spotify Community!

These steps should do the trick - just note that some options may vary slightly depending on your phone's manufacturer:

  1. Go to your phone's Settings > Apps > Spotify > Notifications.
  2. Toggle off Playback. This should hide the media player in your notification panel and on your lock screen.

Tip: if you don't see the "Playback" option directly under "Notifications", you should find it under Notification Categories instead.

Hope this helps. Cheers 🤘

Hi @ViperSniper,

Thank you for your response and suggestions!

I’ve already tried turning off the Playback notification as well as completely disabling Spotify notifications, but the playback controls still show up on my lock screen and in the notification panel.
I also uninstalled the previous version, cleared cache and data, and installed the latest version following the instructions here: https://community.spotify.com/t5/FAQs/Perform-a-clean-reinstall-of-the-app/ta-p/4746485.

Here are my device details:

  • Phone Model: Galaxy S20 FE 5G (SM-G781B/DS)
  • Spotify Version: 8.9.86.551
  • Android Version: 13
  • One UI Version: 5.1

Is there another way to permanently remove the player? I appreciate any further help!

Thanks in advance!

Hey @nathan60107,

Welcome to the thread and we really appreciate the info you've sent, as well as the screenshots.

As you've already disabled the Spotify notifications, if it's currently set as default media player/default music app, would you mind changing these settings as well and let us know if it makes any difference? You may need to restart your device.

Please follow these steps:

  1. Bring up Google Assistant by activating it via the widget on your home screen or by saying, "Ok, Google".
  2. Tap your account icon at the bottom of the screen to open up the settings.
  3. Select Music.
  4. Now, tap Spotify to remove it as the default music player.

Thanks and keep us posted 🙂

I recorded a video to try and replicate the steps you mentioned. After completing the steps and restarting my phone, the issue still persists.

Hey @nathan60107,

Thank you for keeping in contact.

We appreciate all the info you've included in your responses. Taking into account that this process varies between manufacturers, we'd recommend reaching Samsung to see if they can help you further since it’s currently not possible to enable/disable the playback controls from the notification bar/lock screen from the Spotify app.

You can also post an idea in our Idea Exchange board suggesting the possibility to enable/disable the playback controls from the Spotify app directly. We'd also recommend taking our guidelines into account to avoid any early rejection.

If anything else comes up, the Community will be here for you.

My Question or Issue

I listen to the Spotify web player on my desktop computer during the day and have intermittent issues where my phone will randomly start showing the Spotify player on the lock screen. Normally if I pause the song on the phone (which also pauses it on the computer), then swipe to close the app on my phone, I can then resume control on the desktop. Typically I have to do this 3x for it to "stick" for the day. Now, it doesn't seem to matter what I do, it keep popping back up whenever I get an email or text notification.

I have blocked all pushes and notifications for Spotify, removed all permissions and stopped it from running in the background. There is no reason for it to be mirroring the desktop player on my phone.

How do I stop this?
