Downloading playlist - what is "offline"?

Downloading playlist - what is "offline"?

I understand how downloading songs and playlists work and how to use them offline. But I have trouble finding confirmation on how Spotify behaves when being on cellular data playing a pre-downloaded playlist.

Since my phone is never offline, it is either connected to Wifi or 4G, I can't find confirmation that Spotify treats offline as not on Wifi. I hope that once I download a playlist and walk out of my home and am no longer connected to Wifi, Spotify uses the downloaded songs and doesn't use 4G to download them. Is that correct?

Hey @thegabeman,

Thanks for getting in touch with us 🙂

If you've downloaded your songs and start playback with an active internet connection, the app will start streaming them over the network. This is due to the fact that it tries to play the most up to date version on our servers.

If you want to avoid this, you can turn on the offline mode.

Hope this shines some light on the situation. We'll be right here if you have any further questions.
