Hey Cortana on Microsoft Launcher

My Question or Issue

I use the Hey Cortana feature on Microsoft Launcher as my voice assistant on Android and it works with all my other smart devices fine accept Spotify. When I give it a command to play "Maroon 5" on Spotify for example it will open the app but not play any music. I do the exact same command with Google Assistant and it works beautifully. I prefer the Microsoft Launcher version of Cortana though. Has anyone else had this issue with Cortana?

Out of interest, do you have the option to choose between setting Cortana as your default as opposed to Cortana via Microsoft Launcher, and if so, does it make any difference if you use Cortana directly for voice commands on Spotify?

Also, if you could let us know the exact Spotify version you're running as well as your Android version, that would be great 🙂

Thanks for thr response, I am running Spotify version 8.5.6.673. I can change from Microsoft Launcher over to the Cortana app on android and the commands will work. However when I use the Cortana app vice Cortana on Microsoft Launcher I lose the Hey Cortana function. I would like to be able to use the Hey Cortana function on Microsoft Launcher to give me a hands free experience. Hope that explins things better.

Here's which devices are supported: Xbox One, Harmon/Kardon Invoke speaker, and Windows Insider.

Before you can use Cortana, you'll need to set Cortana up with Spotify. Here's how:

1. Sign into the Cortana app and select Spotify as your preferred music provider. You’re directed to the Spotify login page.
2. Enter your login details. You’re directed to connect Cortana to your Spotify account.
3. Tap OKAY.
4. In the Cortana app, use voice command (Hey Cortana, play David Bowie!) to play Spotify.

I have the same problem and that fix dosen't work. 

I relinked Cortana to Spotify and still it just opens spotify but won't play the requested song...won't even go to the right page, Just opens Spotify where it was last time I played something manually. 

Cortana states she's now playing the requested song, but no go. 

I've filed a bug with Microsoft, never heard back. 

If this continues I'm canceling my premium subscription and moving one to something that works.
