My songs won’t pause even after I press the pause button and exit the app

So I listen to music a lot. I sometimes have the Spotify app and another app in split mode to easily access it. Recently, it just started doing this thing where it’s either playing another song with the previous song’s title card. The worst thing that’s happened so far is the songs I try to pause keep on playing. I don’t know what to do, since I can’t update the app, and I’ve even restarted my device to see if the problem could fix itself. To no avail, the songs play unpaused even after I pause it sometimes. May someone please help me out with this? If you can, thank you so much!

The issue you mentioned about the app showing the cover of the previous song is already being investigated here. We'd recommend adding your vote by clicking in the thumbs-up button and the "Me Too" button. You can also subscribe to it to be aware of any updates.

The other issue you mentioned about the playback could be related to this Ongoing issue that is currently being investigated as well, but it affects iOS devices only. If your issue is not on an iOS device, would you mind confirming the troubleshooting steps you've done so far? This is to avoid performing processes that may not help with your issue.

Well, the playing when paused is definitely not an IOS only issue.  It happens on Windows 10 and has been for months.  It's random but annoying AF.
