Now Playing bar missing on Android

Now Playing bar missing on Android

The control bar never appears (see screenshot).
There is a closed and huge thread relating to vaguely similar issues (but with Samsung phones).  I have tried all the suggested steps in that topic, including a clean re-install of the app, to no avail.
Device: CPH2021 (Oppo A91)
Android 11 (ColorOS v11.1)
Spotify version: 8.9.36.616 (premium)

Country: Belgium

Today, there is a problem with Spotify. When I press the down arrow to close the now playing screen, it does not show the miniplayer on the bottom, but the music is still playing. How to resolve this?

Also experiencing this issue on android 14. Samsung galaxy s22 with the latest updates.

Thanks for reaching out. To ensure this isn't just some temporary issue, please try performing a full clean reinstall. 

 

If the issue persists, please provide us the following:

  • Is this on all devices or only on Android?
  • When did this start happening?
  • Does this happen with all content?

With this information, we’d be happy to investigate.

Same problem here.  This started yesterday (May 6th, 2024)

 

Device: Google Pixel 8

Android 14
Spotify version: 8.9.36.616 (premium)

Country: US

 

 

 

Same issue. A clean reinstall did not resolve the issue. Pixel 6

Same issue. A clean reinstall didn't resolve the issue. Pixel 6. Doesn't occur on any song. Works when app is first opened. Play controls disappear after app is minimized and opened again.

My Spotify app all of a sudden stopping showing the row in the bottom where your currently playing song is, so i cant skip a song either without the controls on a headset

Also have this problem. Started in the last 3 days or so

Also getting this on S24 Ultra.

 

Temporarily resolved by restarting the app.

 

For me it seems to be linked to changing device theme. So switching between Dark/Light mode will instantly reproduce the issue.

Thanks for reporting this. I've forwarded it to the attention of our tech team who'll investigate further. In the meantime, could you try changing your phone's theme as mentioned here to see if that does the trick?

 

If you've changed your display's scale (150% for example), it's also worth resetting it to 100% to check if it'd make the Now Playing bar show up.

Thank you for posting this. This had been a problem in the past on a different Samsung device, then it was resolved for a bit under two years, and now it is again suddenly a problem on another Samsung device that I got more than a year ago.
I have done exactly as Tommy described in the original thread you mention, but still, the Now Playing bar disappears from time to time, and is only resolved by crashing and reopening the app (multiple times a day).

Your link is this thread. The only other mention of "theme" on this thread is someone mentioning that changing the theme *reproduces* the issue, but you seem to imply changing the theme will *fix* the issue?

the now playing bar has magically reappeared.  i didn't do anything to the app at all

In this case, we'd suggest you check if there is a pending update for Spotify on your devices. If yes, please update the app and check if this behavior persists.

 

If yes, please send us the exact Spotify version you're running there.

Same here, on the latest available to me version 8.9.38.494 (Pixel 😎

Keeps happening arbitrarily during the day. Used to have this issue for a while on another device a year or two ago and nothing was really helping (except force stopping the app every time).

Thanks for the info @animakozak. Could the rest of you folks also confirm if the issue persists on 8.9.38.xxx? More info on how to update the app here.

 

If it does, please share the exact version you're running.
