On android auto, Spotify mutes when a notification comes in, and then stays muted

every time i get a sms notification on AA the music volume lowers. ok. NBD... but lately, the volume never returns to normal. it stays lowered till i unplug/re-plug phone.  it doesnt do this with any of my other audio apps, and it does it with spotify in every vehicle ive been able to test it on.  

occasionally i dont realize it and i turn the volume up to compensate. then the next time i get in my car i legitimately almost blow out my speakers and ear drums.

it has made spotify unusable until i can find a solution.

This type of issue is usually related to some damaged cache stored on the app. First, we'd recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app on your Android phone by following the steps in this article. This will also update the Spotify app to the latest version.

After this, restart your Android phone and try again. Also, check if you have any OS updates available as they may affect the proper behavior of the app.
