Ongoing Android Issues

For the past month, my Spotify app has had numerous issues that I can't find anywhere else, and it's become unusable.

1. When I start the app, regardless of if using WiFi or mobile data, it takes a very long time to load.

2. When I go to play anything in my library, regardless of what it is, there is a delay between hitting play and the song/playlist/album playing. This can last from 10+ seconds to never playing. The same goes when trying to pause or skip a song.

3. When listening to a playlist or album, 30+ seconds of silence will play at the end of every song before I either hit skip (still delayed) or it finally starts playing the next song.

4. Whenever I've tried restarting the app out of desperation to try to get music to stop playing or skip to the next song, sometimes it will keep playing for several minutes.

Specs

- Moto G Stylus 5G 2022

- Mobile app

- Android 12

- Student premium plan

What I've tried

- Restarting the app

- Restarting my phone

- Logging out and back in

- Checking for updates (haven't been any that fixed the problem)

- Deleting and redownloading the app

This hasn't been a problem on PC, and I haven't been able to find anyone else with this set of problems. What can I do?? It's driving me insane.

Hey @-2m73_t1ok4uc,

Thanks for your post!

If you haven't already, could you give the app on your phone a clean reinstall? You can follow the steps under Android - 6.0 or above here. It's different than a quick reinstall and can help resolve issues with Spotify's performance.

If the issue persists, could you check and let us know if you're using an SD-card?

I tried this and it worked for a short time, but now the app is back to behaving as before. I'm using an SD card in my phone, but when I first inserted it, Spotify wouldn't allow me to change the storage to SD card, so the app and all its related data are stored on my phone.

Thanks for the cooperation, @-2m73_t1ok4uc.

Corrupted cache on the SD-card can cause different issues, so it's worth checking if it'll make any difference without it.

We recommend removing the SD-card and giving Spotify a clean reinstall once again to see if the same issues would persist afterwards. It's a good idea to use the app without the SD-card for some time in order to test.

On another note, one more step is that you can even try with a friend's or a relative's account on your device.

Keep us posted.

Apologies for the delayed response. I tried this and it did not work. I had a friend log in on my phone, and the same problems occurred on their account.

Hey @-2m73_t1ok4uc,

Thanks for the reply!
In this case I'd check if removing the cached data would cause any immediate change in the app's behaviour.
If all remains the same, see if any battery optimization settings are affecting Spotify.
To do so, take a look at this article over here.

Keep us posted 🙂

I followed the instructions for clearing the cache and turned off all battery/data optimization settings that I could find which were affecting Spotify. It still did not seem to work. As far as I could tell from the second article and Google, there is no way to entirely disable the doze mode on Android 12 without advanced developer knowledge, which I do not have, so I was unable to do that.

Hey there @-2m73_t1ok4uc,

Thanks for all the additional info!

We had a look in to this, and considering the steps you've tried, the best thing would be to reach out to your device's manufacturer so that they can have a look at the settings from their end as well. You can get in touch with Motorola through this page.

It also worth keeping an eye out for any updates for your device's operating system, as well as for the Spotify app.

The Community is here for you, should you need anything else in the meantime!
