My Question or Issue

After a period of inactivity I am unable to start playing songs again. The play button is responsive, as in the symbol changes from play to pause, but the song won't resume playing. Additionally the queue is wiped and it only starts working again after I restart the app. The issue started after I updated the app on November 29th. I updated the app again today, December 2nd, hoping the issue had been patched but I just got the same error again.

Thanks for reaching out and reporting this!
Could you tell us more about the issue? Does it happen to a specific playlist like the Liked Songs or does it happen regardless of what you've played?
And, so that we can try to replicate this, from what you've seen, how long would the said period of inactivity be?

To start troubleshooting things, we can always try removing your cached data to see if that would make a difference.
Another thing to try is removing all Spotify-related data and installing it anew via the steps for a complete clean reinstall.

I usually listen to the same playlist which is quite a large playlist with over 4000 songs so I haven't checked if the issue also occurs with other playlists. The period of inactivity also varies a lot, I've had the issue not occur overnight but then it did occur after only 20 minutes of inactivity.

 

The cover of the album also does not load in the play screen when the issue occurs. I've updated to Android 14 and reïnstalled the Spotify app in the meantime but the issue still persists.

It's worth mentioning that especially with bigger playlists, there can be issues with the performance because of the many items in them. As we suggested earlier, it's a good call to clear the cache from time to time to make sure no data is causing those issues.

 

Let us know if there's a difference afterwards and if the same thing happens even when you're listening to different (smaller) playlists.
