Hey @jonprc,

Thank you for joining the conversation.

In the Spotify app, podcasts and albums behave in a similar way. This means that the app will take the podcast show as an entire album and every episode like a song. Taking this into account, the Autoplay feature will not play similar content if you’re listening to the last episode sorted from eldest to newest (the one on the bottom of the list).

In this case, if you want to listen to just one single episode and it’s not the last one of the list, you can add it to the play queue instead of playing it directly from the show. This will prevent next episodes from playing after the one you're currently listening to.

Hope this helps. If anything else comes up, the Community will be here for you.

Hey @user-removed,

Thanks for reaching out!

Autoplay can be turned off from the app settings 🙂
Go to Settings -> Playback -> Autoplay to do so.

Hope this helps!

"Autoplay" isn't an option, only "Autoplay similar content" is an option. That doesn't stop podcasts from autoplaying.

I am glad that I found this because it helps me to understand the logic of Spotify. I think that many of us would be VERY grateful if you can create an option in Settings where Podcasts are NOT treated like albums and the next episode will not autoplay... having that happen is HIGHLY frustrating and is a feature that a user should be able to control, especially if we are paying for premium. Thank you.

Just adding support to this. Podcasts are not like songs and it can very annoying to have one autoplay when you don’t expect it. It would be great to be able to disable autoplay for podcasts only.

When I play an episode of podcast to which I subscribe, the next episode automatically plays. I want to stop this. I have tried switching offf Autoplay but it makes no difference. How do I stop the next podcast from playing automatically?
I am using android.

Like others have said, there's no option to prevent it... only workarounds to manage a play queue. Ironically it works fine on smart speakers... the podcast stops after an episode has finished.

Just to update, the podcasts still autoplay.🙄 Very annoying as I fell asleep thinking I had autoplay off😠, so lost my place in where I am as EVERYTHING played!😑 @spotify please do something about it!🙏

Hi. I’m not seeing Autoplay in Playback settings.

The only workaround so far is to stop using Spotify for podcasts as it's definitely not designed for that. The default autoplay behaviour is designed for music content and it does not look like Spotify has any interest to invest on improving the podcast end user experience (where content should be listened once only and marked as read/disappear and should never autoplay (without being actively listened to) as it if was a song).

Podcasts and songs should not behave the same. I want my music to autoplay, I don't want podcasts to autoplay. How do I achieve this?

Hello - This is happening to me when playing podcasts. I have the Autoplay feature off in settings, but when playing podcasts, it automatically adds the next episodes to my list, even if I have already reproduced them before. I am using Spotify for windows on my desktop, how can I change this? It's annoying.

If I download four episodes and listen to them while offline, they will all be played

My Question or Issue

I have autoplaying turned off. When I play a podcast episode, spotify keeps playing all the episodes. The "Next from..." queue is filled and plays. How do I get it to play only one episode?

On mobile android device, for months I have been adding a single podcast episode to the My Episodes Playlist as a way to play only that one specific episode. I have autoplay turned off and this has always worked before. For the last week or so, the app has started playing music after my podcast ends. I want to go to sleep and not hear hours and hours of endless songs I didn't request. What changed and how do I stop it?

I have the same problem, autoplay is off in settings still it continur to play episodes of the podcast.

Hi! I'd wish to have such a function. I'm using Spotify on iOS and the Autoplay option is not available the settings (already in 2023 only "Autoplay similar content" was available, which doesn't do the trick).

The only workaround for me is to use the last option of the sleep timer which will stop playing as soon as current episode ends (Sleep timer -> End of episode). It works, but the disadvantage of this is that users have to select it every time they don't want Spotify to automatically jump to the next episode.

My Question or Issue

When I play a song on Spotify, the app follows up with other songs which I may like to listen to next, based on whatever algorithm. This includes songs I have listened to before and songs by artists that I listen to frequently. This is good as it means I am often listening to songs I like without having to queue up songs manually.

However, when I am listening to a podcast, the app also queues up podcasts to listen to afterwards. This does not work as well as for songs. I cannot figure out why certain podcasts are played next and not others. Often, the podcast queued up next will be one I have already listened to. It is rare that any user would re-listen to the same podcast episode, I’m sure. So why is this a frequent issue when I am listening. I often listen to podcasts while driving, so it is very frustrating to be unexpectedly re-listening to a podcast which I’ve finished listening to previously.

Also, I have followed particular podcasts on Spotify which I am interested in listening to. Why, then, am I often automatically queued up with other random podcasts which I may have listened to one episode of, instead of the new episodes of podcasts I have “followed” and listened to regularly.

I wonder if you could provide clarity on this issue. I can’t find anywhere within the app to change my preferences in relation to this.

Thanks
