My Issue

It's a two part issue, but both parts seem to be linked to opening the app while connected to bluetooth.

  1. When listening to a podcasts back catalog of episodes (oldest to newest), opening the app while connected to bluetooth will auto play the last episode I was on, but will reverse the order of the remaining episodes. i.e. it will have the previously finished episode queued to play next, and the next older episode after that, etc.
  2. While listening to a podcasts back catalog, and having manually added new episodes of other podcasts to the queue, opening the app while connected to bluetooth will skip the last episode I was listening to, regardless of if it was done or not, and begin playing the next one queued up; however, the rest of the queue will have been completely cleared.

I've tried clearing my cache, I've tried a clean install, I've tried logging out and back in multiple times.  This issue arose over the course of another ongoing issue regarding the queue switching to the "liked songs" playlist and/or randomizing queues, which was incorrectly marked as fixed.

Hey @Dantpool,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

In this case, we'd suggest trying the following:

  • Open a different Premium account on the affected device to see if you can replicate this behavior. You can ask for the account of a relative or a friend to open it on your device and check.
  • Check if there are some pending updates for your mobile device's OS.

Additionally, we'd like to gather further info to better understand the mentioned behavior:

  • Would you mind sending us more info about the devices you connect your cellphone to? Are they smart speakers/ headphones?
  • Does this happen if you open your account on a different mobile and connect to your Bluetooth devices?
  • Does this happen when queuing a specific show? If yes, share with us the link to it.

Send us as many details as possible.

Keep us in the loop!

Thank you for the reply, I'll respond in order:

  • Are you insinuating that this might be an account/settings issue somehow?  If so, please tell me what settings I should look for to change.  My device auto-logs me back into my account if I log out, and it would be easier for me to just look for what appropriate setting might be causing this issue.
  • There are no pending updates, this issue has persisted for a couple months, as I'd mentioned, this issue was posted in another thread that was incorrectly marked as fixed.
  • One device is a Bluetooth to FM transmitter which I've had far longer than I've had the issue, the other is a pair of headphones which I've only recently experienced this issue with.  For further clarification, this issue has previously happened when just opening the app with no bluetooth connections, but that portion stopped over the course of the previously mentioned threads main issue being "corrected"
  • Bold of you to assume I have more than one mobile device, once again, are you insinuating that this may be an account/settings issue? Please see point one.
  • Neither part of the issue happens with only specific shows.

Further details:

  • This only happens when the app is not playing, and is then opened while connected.  If I start the playback prior to the connection, the issue does not happen.
  • It only happens with Spotify
  • Yes I have android auto turned off
  • I'd like to have the auto-play for Spotify turned off when I connect to my bluetooth adapter, but there isn't a setting for that.

I attempted to reply, but my response was rejected as spam.

Hi there @Dantpool

Thanks for all the info you've sent so far.

We tried this on our end, but we weren't able to replicate it.

We're afraid there's no setting in the app that can affect this kind of behavior you described on your account. However, it'd be helpful if you could try with a different account as well as a different device since those steps would help us understand if the issue is somehow related to your specific account or device. We understand that you don't have a different device, but maybe you can ask a friend or a relative to try this with theirs to see if they can replicate this behavior.

On another note, it looks like the issue you're experiencing is slightly different from the others you mentioned about the queue switching to Liked songs or the one with the changed queue order. That's why we'd like to treat this separately.

That being said, we suggest that exclude the app from any Battery optimization software that might be active on your smartphone. Additionally, it's worth trying with a different network to see if the same happens.

Keep us posted on how it goes.

My Question or Issue

Anytime I play a podcast I have it set to play the next title in chronological order. I even have it set so previously played episodes are hidden. Yet every time I connect to Bluetooth of any kind, the queue automatically changes it self to play in reverse chronological order, replaying titles I just heard and continuing backwards. The only fix I have for it, is to go and manually re-choose the episode I want and then Spotify recognizes my queue selections again. This is getting annoying
