Problems not playing with Alcatel OneTouch 983

I'm running the latest version of Spotify available on my Alcatel OneTouch 983 that currently has Android 2.3.7.

I had Spotify working beofre (about a year ago) but the latest version doesn't seem to work at all. I can access my files but can't play anything, over 3G or WiFi. It also keeos popping up saying I'm not connected, even though it works fine on my tablet which is tethering 3G through my phone.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Is it possible to get an older version of Spotify that would work and which one would it be?

I'm a Premium user and would love to get it on my phone as well as laptop and tablet.
