Repeat Pixel 6a restarts, app crashes, and Bluetooth shutting off since last update

Solved!

Repeat Pixel 6a restarts, app crashes, and Bluetooth shutting off since last update

I am a premium subscriber in the US currently using a Google Pixel 6a with Android 14 to access Spotify.  Since the most recent app update, Spotify has been randomly crashing after 3 or so songs, causing my phone to reset, and Bluetooth has also been randomly shutting off when Spotify is active.  Basic troubleshooting steps have been ineffective, and I'm typically running Spotify without other apps active. It seems like Google and Spotify may need to collaborate around a solution here.

Thanks for offering assistance.  The issue seems to have corrected itself after 5-6 consecutive app crashes under the circumstances described above, the phone randomly restarting at least 3 times during aforementioned crashes, and me reinstalling the last 2 Google Play System updates, which were available again for some mysterious reason after already being installed.  Other Android devices on hand seem to operate normally, so thinking this is exclusively some sort of issue involving Spotify, Android 14, and/or the Pixel 6a.  Did not do a clean reinstall and will consider that option in the future if problems persist.

Hey @user-removed,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community.

This type of cases involving app crashes are usually related to some damaged cache stored on your device. We understand you’ve already tried some troubleshooting steps including reinstalling, but to be sure that we're on the same page - did you use the steps for a clean reinstall mentioned in this article?

If the issue persists, would you mind checking on a different device (using your own account) to see if it makes any difference? If you don't have another one available, you can borrow one from a friend or family member to test it out.

Lastly, include in your next response the Spotify version you're currently running to continue investigating the case.

We'll be on the lookout.

Hello. I am experiencing the exact same issue as of this morning on my Pixel 6 Pro running Android 14. I have tried clearing the app cache, clearing stored data, uninstalling, and doing a fresh install, but nothing has worked. When I play anything within the Spotify app, the phone screen immediately locks, flashes on and off 3-5 times, and then eventually the phone crashes and the music stops. The phone then reboots. I am running version 8.9.52.552 of Spotify. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I have the exact same issue has Avocado247, can someone please assist?

I have the same issue as Avocado247 described above since yesterday, also using version 8.9.52.552 of Spotify, but on a Google Pixel 6a. I have android 14, and while listening to music, the lock screen turns itself and off for some times until the entire phone crashes. I tried deleted cache and the stored data, and reinstalling spotify, but it keeps crashing when I play music.

Any help welcome!

I have the same problem but with a Pixel 6, literally just started today. My solution was to use the browser version of Spotify which seems to work fine meaning it is a problem with the app.

As a follow-on to my note, I figured out that if I turn my phone on airplane mode and turn off wifi, I can listen to downloaded songs without issue. So it has something to do with the app connecting to the network.

Hi there folks,

Thanks for reaching out about this.

We'd like to gather all necessary info first:

  • @Dougbant, could let us know if you've also tried troubleshooting steps? Additionally, let us know the model and OS of your device, along with the Spotify version you're running?
  • Are all of you experiencing the exact same behavior described in the OP? Is the app crashing everytime you try to use it? Or is it intermittent? And is the Bluetooth also shutting off?
  • Could any of you send a video of this behavior? You can attach it in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public, so we can visualize it. We understand the phone crashed, but if possible, try recording it from a different device.

We'll be on the lookout!
