Hey everyone,
Thanks for reaching out here in the Community.
As @Dian mentioned, keep in mind that there are some limitations to the playback navigation capabilities when using the free service. In this case, it's expected that the button is grayed out and it can be unlocked with a Premium subscription.
If you're on Premium and you can't use the button, here are some things to try:
In case you're still experiencing issues, feel free to reach out in this thread or create a new one in the relevant Help Board.

That's not a stupid question @icecat8 I don't think it's very obvious. I enjoyed helping you and I hope you have a great day!
I recently switched from premium (had a subscription for over a year) to freemium (July 2017) and then again to spotify family premium (I am the creator of this family).
On my mobile device, the "go back" button is inactive and the playlist is in random shuffle. Account shows "premium".
Unfortunately, reinstalling spotify seems to be the only solution @supersono.
Loggin in and out did not help.
I’m on premium yet my previous/rewind is greyed out. What’s the solution pls ?
Hi @user-removed,
Thanks for posting on the Community and welcome.
Just to confirm, is this happening with any song of any playlist you select, or is it happening when searching for a song in particularly?
Additionally, let us know if this happens with another device and with a different account (if possible).
We'll be on the lookout for your reply.
I am a premium account user, but I can't rewind the the previous song when driving with Bluetooth properly connected. Don't understand why. This issue has just started suddenly since months ago.... How can this be fixed?
Hey @MandyPaulissen,
Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome.
This type of issue could be related to some damaged cache stored from previous versions on the device connected via Bluetooth. We'd first recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app. This is often an overlooked step, but it can be helpful in getting rid of any corrupted files that might be causing issues.
If the issue persists, would you mind including in your next response a screenshot where we can see the button grayed out?
Lastly, to keep investigating, could you send us the make, model and OS version of the device connected via Bluetooth, along with the Spotify version you're currently running?
We'll be on the lookout.
I'm curious if you know why reversing or skipping to the next track allowed on the desktop but not the mobile app?
Hey @Robert_S,
Thanks for posting in the Community.
Are you using an account with a Premium subscription or a free one?
If you're using a free one, there are certain limitations to the playback navigation capabilities, which become unlocked with a Premium subscription.
The availability of the buttons differs between apps, because this is how the features are organized on the different platforms. Free users on the desktop app have more control over the playback.
Hope this clears things a bit,
Cheers!
Is it compulsory to buy the premium ?
So that we can rewind on Spotify ?
I’m a free user and sometimes I can skip to the previous song and sometimes I can’t, why is this if only premium users can do that?
Hi there @GodOfToast10,
Thanks for the post.
On the Spotify free tier you have a limited amount of skips per hour. Once you reach the limit of six skips, you won't be able to skip forwards or back anymore until the next hour.
Hope this clears things up 🙂

Pathetic! Don't they make enough from all the tedious ads without having to strong arm users as well?
Are you serious, so I have to pay… PAY to rewind a song???!! wth Spotify
