My Question or Issue
My downloaded songs keep pausing/stopping. Sometimes, it gets two thirds of the way through a song, sometimes it is every 10 seconds. This just started a few days ago and it is VERY frustrating. This sometimes happened when I was running out of space, but the spotify app would tell me why it wasn't working properly. The app doesn't do anything now, it just stops. I've tried to troubleshoot but moving off a bunch of downloaded songs (in case it was a space thing) and deleting and re-adding the app, logging in and out etc but it is still happening!
Hey @es_merelsa86,
Thanks for reaching out about this here in the Community.
Considering what you already tried, it'd be good to carefully follow all the steps here (under Android - 6.0 or above) and make sure you perform a thorough reinstall of the app.
Before launching the freshly installed app, it'd also be good to double-check you disabled any task-killer, cache-cleaning or battery-saver apps since they might prevent Spotify from running smoothly both online and offline.
Let us know how this goes. We're looking forward to your update and we're here to help with anything else too!
I have the exact same issue and I've done your "fixes" at least 8 times. They don't work and I'm getting really irritated. The issue isn't with our phones, it's with your app. I'm very close to canceling my subscription over this.
Hi Mario,
Thanks for your message and apologies for the delay in responding to you. I had a theory I wanted to test and it has been raining here so had to wait that out.
It's still happening. It's fine when I'm connected to wifi. Only happens when I'm not, but I have a premium subscription and these are my downloaded songs.
I tried your hard reinstall again. Note that I'm not able to unistall the app in settings, only disable, then I can unistall it from the playstore, but I still don't think it's a classic uninstall... after I restart and I go into the play store to install it again, it says 'update' so it's kind of like it doesn't fully go away... I googled this and apparently it's because it's an inbuilt app or something?
Another thing I should flag is that when I disable it from the appstore, it asks if I want to restore to factory settings. I'm saying 'cancel' to this but maybe I should be accepting it? I was just worried I'd lose stuff, but as it is a web based app I guess I can't lose my playlists?
My experience today was that initially I got through two songs, then I hit play again and got through another two songs, then it became two thirds of a song then eventually every ten seconds or less...

Chromebook: Chrome browser
Songs play for 10 seconds, pause for 5 seconds, and resume. It is a webplayer, so no 'newest version'.
I shut everything down and wiped out all my browser info from time immemorial, no change, still stops at 10 seconds, and resumes at 15 second mark.
(BTW: I listen to spotify on my Android Phone and on my Garmin 645/M....this issue doesn't occur there at all. Only on the chromebook w/ web player.)
Having the same problem. I've done everything Spotify said to do. However, I did notice that this stopping problem only happens with Bluetooth. When I listen to my headphones, yes they have a cord, Spotify plays just fine.
Could this be a Bluetooth issue or the Android system?
Re: Bluetooth
I was using bluetooth, but I just turned off bluetooth and played directly to the computer speakers, and it the spotify Webplayer still plays a song for 10 seconds, pauses for 5 seconds, then resumes the song.
You may have something going on, but this issue for me isn't related to bluetooth.
Thanks.
I have considered that the headphones are the problem. Bought a new pair. Still have the issue (wire, not bluetooth). The same thing also happens on my ipad. I tested it today off wifi. It has also started happening on my phone while I'm connected to wifi...
Hey @mario do you have an update?
Same here
Using Spotify from my phone works fine. Using Spotify from my android tab, didnt work, even whith cleaning and reinstalling. Then i bought a new android tablet, and have the same problems on the new tablet.
So i guess its not the tablet, but the app....
Hey folks!
Thanks for reporting this to us here. We'll gladly help you out further.
It seems like you are experiencing similar behavior of the app but on different platforms and devices which might mean that the issue is caused by different things. We'd like to get a bit more info about what exactly seems to be happening so that could suggest some more relevant steps.
@es_merelsa86 Could you try the steps here to clean your cache on your Android phone? Since you mention that it started happening with other devices, have you noticed if it only happens with your downloaded songs? Is there any pattern with the pausing?
@chris_in_hi If you have a 2018 or later model Chromebook could you try downloading the app from the Google Play Store and let us know if you get the same issue? You can also try streaming via the web player in an incognito window to see if that makes any difference for you.
@sbudzy We'd like to double check with you if Spotify is put as an exception in your battery saving settings. Could you also let us know what device you're using and its exact OS?
@sr2c and @MortenMarcussen Could you give us a bit more details about what exactly you're experiencing? We'll need to know your Spotify version and OS version, as well as whether this is happening with your downloaded songs or with all tracks on the app. Feel free to share all other info that you think might be useful when it comes to solving this.
We appreciate your cooperation with this and we hope to hear from you soon.
Have a great day!
I'm also having the same problem. I am playing my music through my iPhone 11 and the songs keep on pausing every 10 seconds. I generally listen with my headphones or speakers but either or it is pausing all the time. I have tried to reinstall the app and downloaded all the music again which took forever and still not working. I have tried to delete the cache on the app and on my phone settings all I could do was to offload app or delete it which did nothing. Please can you assist with help because nothing seems to work.

Mine is older and doesn't use Android Playstore Apps. I use HTML webplayer.
Incognito mode still pauses each song at 10 second mark, then after five more seconds they start back up again.
A good 5.O mhz wifi signal, playing straight to the Chromebook speakers.
*This issue is your webplayer on chromebook (because) I have a Chromecast Audio setup, when I use the same HTML webplayer and cast the audio, it does not pause. It is a "chromebook/Webplayer" issue.
I'm having the same problem just playing Spotify on my Google Home mini. Songs will play fine for awhile, then stop in the middle of a song and play the next song. So annoying!
Just so everyone here knows, Pandoras app doesn't randomly stop and it's cheaper and has a better interface. Goodbye spotify.
For those of us with the "Songs all pause at 9 seconds and then resume" issue.
It is probably a Digital Rights Management glitch, DRM. It affects the Spotify Webplayer on Chrome.
