Spotify Connect Playlist 100 song limit

Spotify Connect Playlist 100 song limit

Hi,

there seems to be a problem with spotify connect where playing a playlist of songs that has more than 100 songs trims the playlist to 100 songs on the connected device. This has lasted for a last few Android versions and a few of Windows desktop version.

Technical details - Connect From:

LG G3, Android 5.0, Kernel version 3.4.0

Spotify version 4.5.0.820

Technical details - Connect to:

Windows 8 Enterprise

Spotify version 1.0.20.101.ge6957e14

Problem description:

  • When playlist has <= 100 songs - everything works fine.
  • When playlist has > 100 songs:
    • When playback of the playlist has been started on windows client:
      • Control via spotify connect from android device works fine only when using "Next"/"Previous" buttons.
    • When playback of the playlist has been started on android device via Spotify connect or when a different song has been explicitly selected from the playlist song list:
      • The selected song plays normally even if it's sequence number is > 100.
      • First 100 songs work as expected.
      • The playlist is trimmed to 100 songs.
      • The selected song with sequence number more than 100 behaves as if it was just in Queue:
        • Hitting "next" will switch to the first song in the playlist.
        • Hitting "Previous" will switch to the 100th song in the playlist
        • When the song finishes playing:
          • If repeat all is on - first song in the playlist will be played
          • if repeat all is off - playback stops regardless whether it was the last song in the playlist or if it was only #102 out of 120.
        • After hitting either "Next" or "Previous" or when the song finishes playing - any song with sequence number greater than 100 will no longer be available to navigate to using "next" and "Previous".

Reproduce steps:

  1. Connect from android device to windows client.
  2. Choose a playlist that has at least a couple more songs than 100.
  3. Click on the song from the end of playlist to play it. Make sure that the selected song is not one of the first 100 songs.
  4. Observe the playback queue.

Sorry for making this a bug report rather than a question 🙂

Hi,

same problems here. Any news so far? How can I raise an official complaint to Spotify?

Frank

Hi silversunny,

No news yet, no nothing. I have looked for a way to report this bug directly to spotify, but apparently the community forums were/are the only way.

I'm thinking that one of these might be true at this point:

  • spotify team either have not seen this one
  • too few people consider this a problem to get this problem classified as a "major issue" and got pushed to far-off backlog
  • spotify not interested in fixing this at all

In any case I would have loved at the very least an acknowledgement message from spotify that they are aware of this...

Well... I guess back to waiting and going with workarounds (like teamviewer to start playlist on PC and then using only next/previous/shuffle/repeat/"add to queue" buttons on mobile app to controll which song gets played)

Hi,

Same with iOS.

Very anoying.

The amount of different people who report this, and keep reporting this, might mean it is a huge issue. Look at the forum with the combination "spotify connect + 100 songs".  Ps. I have now exact the same with streaming via connect to a Sonos.

I saw, that the first mentions are from years ago. Shame on you guys. Why do I pay a monthly fee for a service that doesn't innovate and fixes basic problems.

Can somebody from Spotify/dev team, explain to us, why this is still not solved, and when it will be solved?
