Spotify Mobile (Android) Last.fm Error - Mobile APP won't scrobble

Solved!

Spotify Mobile (Android) Last.fm Error - Mobile APP won't scrobble

My last.fm scrobbling used to work just fine on my phone until about a month ago. Now it won't scrobble anything and everytime I go in to put my username and password it gives me a notification that says "Last.fm Error - wrong username or password". I haven't changed my last.fm password at all, it's always been the same so I know I don't have the username or password wrong & it also scrobbles just fine on my desktop spotify. This is driving me nuts. It's important for me to be able to scrobble on my phone. 😞

And just like that, it works!

OK, I guess you just have to try a few times.

One thing however I did, that may have caused this is the following :

I tried to use a fake account/password

Just to test if the account name was cached somewhere as well.

so i tried fakeuser/fakepass

entered, skipped a song so it would scrobble, got the error.

Changed back to my actual username and password. And now it somehow works.

So the fix for me was :

Use stock keyboard with OK button, you can confirm if this is OK if the keyboard disappears after entering the pass.

Change both login and pass to something that doesn't work. (fakeuser/fakepass)

Skip song and Scrobble with fake account, let this give you an error

Enter actual credentials, making sure you enter after the pass and the keyboard disappears (this may depend on your phone)

Skip song and check if you get an error.

Enjoy the best software on your mobile phone 🙂

What worked for me though was not fakeuser/fakepassword but removing a space in the end of my password.

Once I changed my password to a password without a space in the end it worked.

But then again it could be pointing to some caching issue in Spotify Android App and what actually worked was another password change...

Looks like Last.fm changed requirements for password strength, so make sure you password meets new rules. That helped me, because I signed up for last.fm long ago and my pass was oldstyle.

Hey crystalem, welcome to the Community.

We had a thread on this issue last week, take a look here: http://community.spotify.com/t5/Mobile-Android/Spotify-mobile-Android-won-t-authenticate-last-fm-acc...

The problem there seemed to be something to do with the keyboard. I hope that helps.

Thanks for the swift reply Richard. I actually read that thread before posting but it doesn't apply to me. I've clicked "done" on my keyboard after entering my info. I still get an error with wrong username or password eventhough I'm certain it's correct. I've entered & re-entered my info so many times.

Ok then, well I'm not sure what else could be going on here. Are there any odd characters in your Last.fm username or password? It's a longshot but worth checking.

Otherwise, I'd recommend changing your Last.fm password and seeing if that helps. You can always change it back again afterwards to test things out.

I still get the same error. Changed password for last.fm, can't get new password in field. Mine shortens back to the length of my old password if I leave the settings page and return. Have tried with different keyboards (had swiftkey, used stock as well), reinstalled app, cleared everything. Nothing works.

Somehow, somewhere, my password for last.fm is stored and I can't change it ...

Are you definitely pressing enter/ok/done when typing it in? Or just leaving the settings? It can be a bit tricky.

On the swiftkey keyboard it's an "ENTER", the keyboard doesn't disappear. I try to leave the settings via the back button (hardware button), re-enter the settings, password seems "shorter".

On the stock keyboard it's a button labeled "OK", after pressing it the keyboard disappears, BUT, the password length seems "shorter" again, instantly

Some more info, when I say the password length changes (in dots), the actual length is 9 dots. This is so if I type any word, old password, new longer password, or even "test". None of my passwords was ever 9 characters in length. So I suspect this is a security feature, just to obfuscate the passwordlength.

Having the same problem on my Samsung Note.  Seems to retain the old password info somewhere.  Searched the phone for any "Spotify" related files.  Could'nt find any.

That worked for me! Thank the heavens and you for sharing! Woo.

My phone does the same, I have tried to uninstal, and turn off my phone, and the ting about fake username and pass. It still don't work, and it have bean like that for days. I want to be able to listen to the music I'm paying to listen to.

Is there not anything spotify can do to fix this?

Fixed it for me, thanks!

Thanks janvanhoef -- your solution continues to save the day!

Still not working for me. Tried all the possible fixes (even copying - pasting the password), no luck whatsoever.

Will wait for an update 😉

Thank you so much! This helped me a lot with my scrobbling issues.

Hi there,

Sorry to up a bit late topic but I found something. I was trying hard, changing password, changing keyboard etc. to connect Spotify to last.fm with no success and it turned out there simply were a blank space after my nickname.

A blank space.

Well, this can save a lot of issues in a general manner.

Thanks for the tip! I know some keyboards put a space in after words.
