Spotify app deletes downloaded songs every new day

Spotify app deletes downloaded songs every new day

Android Oreo 8.0.0

My Question or Issue

Ever since updating to Android Oreo the Spotify app deletes all downloaded music every day. This means I have to redownload it every day as well.

It also adds an offline device for every day. (see attachment for current list of offline devices)

I have already tried uninstalling the app then purging all spotify data and removing all offline devices before installing the app again. I followed a tutorial that was linked as an answer to a similar-sounding issue.

I don't have an sd card and I have more than enough space for the songs I download (I do it every day so I know for sure).

So, I really don't know what's going on. I'd appreciate any suggestions to fix this.

Heey @nicolastorres55,

Thanks for letting us know about this and for sending a screenshot.

Please follow these steps in this order:

  1. Click on Remove All Devices here.
  2. Do a clean reinstall (step 4 is very important).
  3. Restart device.

Let us know how it goes.

Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what I've been doing.

It didn't work any of the times I tried it, the last of which was ~2 days ago.

One thing that I just thought of is that I took away a couple of permissions from Google Play Services. Could that be a problem?

Also I regularly use a VPN, but I didn't mention it because it was never an issue on Android 7.

Hey again @nicolastorres55,

Thanks for getting back to us with a confirmation that you've tried our suggestions!

Since you don't have an SD card and you have followed the abovementioned steps, could you check if Spotify has permission to run on your phone by going to:

  1. Mobile Settings> Apps> Spotify> Permissions. Allow everything you see there.
  2. Mobile settings> Apps> Spotify> Battery> Optimize battery usage> select top All (not optimized for apps)> Spotify> disable.

Let us know what happens!
