Spotify automatically switches audio quality to low

Spotify automatically switches audio quality to low

I have disabled auto-adjust and set the quality to very high, but occasionally it switches to low and it's not possible to change it back.

Hey, @ivan-vologdin
Welcome to the Spotify Community, and thanks for reaching out to us here!

Is it happening with different devices or just on your phone? Also, it would be good if you try a clean reinstall of the app on your device, just to make sure cache issues that may be affecting the app behavior. You can find the step-by-step here:

Stay awesome!

Let me know if you have further questions or need anything else! I'd love to help! 🙂

Hi Luan,

Spotify on macOS works just fine. And no, clean reinstall didn't help.

Hey there @ivan-vologdin,

Thanks for your reply and for the info shared.

Since you mentioned you've performed a clean reinstall of the app, we'd suggest (if you haven't yet) you clear the cache of the app. You can follow the steps in this article to do it.

If this behavior persists, then we'd like to gather some additional info. Please send us:

  • The exact Spotify version you're running on your device.
  • Does this happen if you open your account on a different mobile device? You can ask for the mobile device of a relative or a friend to open your account there and check.
  • Does this happen when using WiFi? 3G/4G? Both?

Keep us in the loop!

Hey,

The version is 9.0.10.415

It happens only when mobile data (5G) is used

Hey @ivan-vologdin,

Thanks for sending over some more details!

As you mention this occurs only when using 5G, could you double-check the device's data/network settings to ensure that Spotify is allowed to use enough data? If possible, you can try changing the data usage/limit set for the Spotify app (if any), to see if it makes any difference.

In the Spotify app, we also recommend making sure that Data Saver is toggled off in the app settings, as this may cause behavior similar to what you're describing. It's worth having a look at your phone's battery settings as well, to see if Spotify is set as an exception, if you're using the battery optimization option.

Let us know how you get on 🙂

Hey, nothing of this applies. It clearly worked a few months ago.

Moreover, none of these should block quality select of auto-ajust is off

Hi @ivan-vologdin,

Thanks for the reply.

We get what you mean, but the network has a lot of influence on audio quality, so the info requested is to help us narrow down a possible root cause and ultimately find a solution. To that end, please send us the info provided by @Maria.

In addition, you said that the setting cannot be changed after it switches on its own. Could you please send us a screen recording of this behaviour so we can take a closer look? If the files are too large to attach here in the Community, you can send them to us via Google Drive or as unlisted YouTube videos.

Keep us posted.

Hey Joan,

Unfortunately, I don't care that much to record a video, but I have a screenshot. It has enough to demonstrate the bug.

Hi @ivan-vologdin,

Thanks for the prompt reply.

So the rest of the settings are greyed out and not clickable, is that correct? In that case, please double check the aforementioned network troubleshooting and let us know how it goes. We'll be able to delve deeper and find what's going on based on that.

Keep us posted.

No, the rest of the settings is fine, it's only the audio quality settings that don't work.

I triple checked the network settings. It's NOT that.

Hi @ivan-vologdin,

Thanks again for the quick reply.

Could you please test the following:

  • Perform a full clean reinstall if you haven't already. It's possible the issue stems from corrupted cache and this will help clear that and get everything back on track
  • If the issue persists, please test if the behaviour is the same across both mobile data and on different Wi-Fi networks

Let us know how it goes.
