Basic info: spotify premium, Samsung S10, Samsung S20, Oneplus 8T. Forum has been browsed through, no help there. Router, switch, WiFi turned on and off multiple times, reseted twice. Spotify app reinstalled multiple times on all mobile devices, with different combinations of wifi being on/off, music playing/not playing and so on during the extensive troubleshooting session. I have three speakers at home (2 x google nest mini grouped into one (lets call it bedroom), 2 x sonos symfonisk grouped into one (office), 1 x Denon connected to an array of speakers as the living room main audio system.)
My problem is this: all of a sudden (about 4 days ago) spotify connect stopped working on all mobile devices. Here are the findings and conditions when things work/do not work:
1) Initiate a song from android, connect to any of my home speakers -> can't connect to any device, music keeps playing from the phone it was initiated from
2) Initiate a song from desktop/laptop, connect to any of my home speakers -> works normally. Mobile devices can switch both song playing and device being used without any issue.
3) Initiate a song from mobile device, use desktop to select device -> works normally
So, if I don't have my desktop/laptop running (usually not) I am unable to use Spotify connect at all and frankly it's very frustrating as my whole home theater/audio setup is now practically useless (99% of my use is spotify music/podcasts). All help appreciated but please read what I wrote in the beginning of this post - troubleshooting the basic stuff I believe has already been done.
Hey there @Cenotaph,
Welcome to the Community and thanks for getting in touch.
Great troubleshooting so far! Just to confirm - Spotify Connect is not working on none of the devices mentioned above? Are you even able to see the speaker and select it when you click on Connect > Other devices on any of the Android phones?
We see you mentioned that you've reinstalled the app, but could you confirm that you've carefully followed the steps in this article?
In order for us to better understand what exactly is going on, could you post some screenshots of your experience? Also, include in your next response the OS versions of all devices, along with the Spotify version you're currently running on them.
In the meantime try on a different network as well, for example you can start a hotspot from one of the devices and use that network and see if that issue still persists.
Keep us posted, we'll be on the lookout for your reply.
Hi!
- I can see the speaker(s) on the connect menu in all mobile devices
- None of the listed mobile devices work (cannot initiate connect session, but can control a session initiated by a desktop installation/webpage client)
- Spotify version 8.7.62.398 in every device except desktop/laptop (Spotify for Windows 1.1.92.647.ga4397eb7 there)
- Android 12 in every device except Windows 11/Windows 10 on desktop/laptop (webclient tested only with chrome)
Different network tested and not working. I've tried two different wifi routers along with my google home wifi setup which is the usual way to hook up things (very frustrating to setup, as the whole operation took over two hours to haul over every device to different wifi).
Apps uninstalled and reinstalled by the instructions mentioned in the article.
Hey @Cenotaph,
Thanks for your reply and for the info you kindly sent us.
We'd like to confirm, can you see the speakers on the Connect list, but you can't select them as they're devices grayed out? Or do you see the speakers, you can select them but the playback isn't coming from them?
It’d be awesome if you could share with us some screenshots of what you're seeing on the affected devices, as it'll help us better visualize what you're mentioning.
We'll be on the lookout!
Hi. I can select the device, but it loops forever on the connecting message that pops up immediately after selecting a device. There is literally no error messages, no UI clues, nothing out of the ordinary in the application. It looks exactly similar than before, only thing is that it doesn't allow me to connect ever (also, Google nest speakers play a short tune when they are connected via spotify, the tune plays, but never succeeds in the connection).
And yes, other speakers besides Google nest do not work either via connect.
Screenshot of connectable attached.
Hi there @Cenotaph,
Thank you for your reply and for the provided information. Let's continue to investigate this.
If you have an SD card we suggest that you uninstall the app > turn off your phone > take out your SD card > turn on the phone again (without the SD card) > reinstall the app since the card can be corrupted.
We'll keep an eye out for your reply.
Take care!
I was just able to test everything with a non-rooted device without calendar 2023 Android: Everything is working just fine...
Hi there @alinabo12,
Thank you for your reply in this thread and for the troubleshooting you've done so far. We'd like to investigate this further.
Just to confirm, did you follow the steps that's been provided earlier in this thread?
Cheers!

Are you experiencing encryption issues with Chrome on Android?
The app on my Android when I tap to open just keeps going back to my home screen won't even open the app
I am experiencing exactly the same issue as described by Cenotaph. I see my speakers in the list, it's not greyed out, but when I click on it it just says "Connecting" forever. It happens on my Android phone, but works fine on ipad. I have tried all of the steps outlined in this thread. Is there anything else to be done?
I have also had this problem over the last few months, does not see my Sonos devices on the Android Spotify app, but oddly the PC Desktop Spotify app is fine - is there a resolution to this problem?
