Spotify stops playing abruptly

Spotify stops playing abruptly

For the last few weeks, Spotify stops playing abruptly whether I'm on wifi or using mobile data. I make sure I have a good connection whenever I'm using Spotify, but the app stops playing a song abruptly. When I open the app again to pick up where the song was interrupted, the app plays the most recent song from the beginning so it doesn't save play location either. One time I had to start the same song 3-4 times because the app stopped playing as many times. This is very frustrating! I have a premium membership and I'm using the app on a Samsung Galaxy S22 Android phone. Until last month, Spotify worked like a charm. I didn't make any changes to the phone OS or the Spotify app in recent weeks to cause this issue. Please help!!

Hi there, sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with Spotify on your Samsung Galaxy S22. Here are some troubleshooting steps that may help:

  1. Clear the app cache: Go to "Settings" > "Apps" > "Spotify" > "Storage" > "Clear Cache".

  2. Reinstall the app: Uninstall Spotify from your phone, then reinstall it from the Google Play Store.

  3. Check for updates: Make sure your Spotify app is up-to-date by going to the Google Play Store and checking for any available updates.

  4. Restart your phone: Sometimes restarting your phone can help fix issues with apps.

  5. Check your internet connection: Make sure you have a stable internet connection, either through WiFi or mobile data.

  6. Disable battery optimization: Go to "Settings" > "Battery and Device Care" > "Battery" > "App Power Management" and disable optimization for Spotify.

  7. Disable any battery-saving or data-saving modes: Some phones have battery-saving or data-saving modes that can interfere with apps. Make sure these modes are disabled when using Spotify.

Hope to get your listening experience back to normal,

When I am playing songs on Spotify, it just stops playing, so I look at it to see what's wrong and it looks like I never hit the play button because the play arrow is what I see.

My Question or Issue

When listening to Spotify, it pauses itself all the time. Go into app and says lost connection even when connected to WiFi and its a steady good connection. I can do most things on my phone via 4g or WiFi. But for some reason it stops.

I have tried uninstalling and starting again but doesn't solve issue. I have tried all different settings still no luck. I even have stuff downloaded so doesn't need a connection and does the same thing

 Help! So frustrating.

Hey there @Shire9990,

Thanks for posting in the Community!

To start, could you give the app a clean reinstall with the steps under Android - 6.0 or above here? Keep in mind it's different than a quick reinstall and can help resolve issues with Spotify's performance.

When it comes to the connection itself, if you haven't already, could you also restart your router to see if it makes any difference?

Keep us in the loop.

I have this problem (sometimes it pauses, sometimes the app closes abruptly as if I had turned my phone off) and none of these have worked for me. I've been trying different solutions for the past few months and nothing, it's very annoying, especially since I'm premium.

Hey there @jimenalc

Thanks for getting in touch about this here in the Community.

Could you let us know if this is happening across devices or on only on a specific one? Also, have you checked if the same happens while using a different internet connection? If you haven't, we suggest that you give that a go to see if the issue persists.

If it happens across different networks, it's recommended you secure your account by following the steps below:

  1. Log in to your account page and scroll all the way to the bottom.
  2. Select SIGN OUT EVERYWHERE.
  3. Request a password reset by visiting this article.

It's also worth checking the apps that are linked to your Spotify account on your account page under Apps and remove any you don't recognize. You can find out more tips on how to protect your account here.

Let us know how it goes.
