My Question or Issue
Hi there
I have an issue with the media player widget that appears in the swipe down menu and on the lock screen on Android. This is the widget which shows the song details and allows starting/pausing and skipping to the next song. The widget occasionally becomes unresponsive and the only solution is to force stop Spotify.
This problem occurs when the following is done:
1) start Spotify and play a song.
2) While the song is playing, go to the Android recent apps i.e. overview screen and "close" Spotify by swiping up. Spotify will continue to play music in the background.
3) Open Spotify again by tapping the icon.
The media player widget is now frozen and unresponsive. This is also an issue for when I connect my phone to my car via bluetooth, where the touch screen display of the built in media player is also frozen.

Hey there @Auser2,
Thanks for reaching out about this here in the Community.
First up, it's well worth running a clean reinstall of the app to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble.
If a clean reinstall didn't do the trick, there're also a few other things we can try. Can you make sure that Spotify has all necessary permissions enabled?
It's also a good idea to exclude the app from any Battery optimization software that might be active on your smartphone.
Let us know how it goes.
Hi Eni
Thanks for the fast reply.
I did the clean reinstall exactly as directed in the link. The folder com.spotify.music was not present in either internal_storage/Android/Data or SD_card/Android/Data.
The problem persists.
Thanks
Hey @Auser2,
Thanks for the reply!
Just to confirm, did you check so that Spotify has all the necessary permissions, as well as the device's battery settings?
We recommend double-checking these settings, along with Allow Spotify to run in the background, as they can sometimes cause issues with the app performance. It's worth having a look for any updates for your device's operating system as well.
If this doesn't do the trick, could you let us know if this only happens when being connected to Bluetooth, or does it happen when listening directly from the phone as well?
Keep us posted!
This started for me today as well, Galaxy S22 Ultra. Also for my partner on Galaxy S22. The media control swipe down quick display isn't showing track progress and the track image is blurred as mentioned above.
As well as the above, car displays in our VW and BMW are now showing unknown artist, unknown track, unknown album.
Cannot see that either Bluetooth or Spotify have updated recently, but there must be an issue with Spotify. Same with my Galaxy Watch 4 Classic.
Spotify updated to version 8.9.20.574 this morning at 6:03am.
This started today as well for me. I have galaxy s22 ultra. It won't work on my drop-down menu, lock screen, android auto, and regular stereo. For my regular stereo it usually shows the name of the song but it stopped working. All my other apps work normal.
Galaxy S23 Ultra, same here. what is happening, spotify?
Samsung A52s here. The exact same thing is happening to me. I tried restarting my phone and nothing happening. I then uninstalled and then reinstalled it which only fixed it for the duration of the song and then it went straight back to doing it again.
tried to talk to spotify support on twitter, basically no help, ig we just need to wait for new update with fixes
Experiencing same problem on my S22. The notification seek bar doesn't show anymore, the album art is blurry low quality, flashes when next song plays. Sometimes the seek bar notification comes to life but will fail to update song information like title and artist name.
I have the same problem on Galaxy S22 Ultra and Galaxy watch 5
Same thing pixel 7. It also get stuck on one song in the notification even if another is playing. Won't fix after force stopping app. Temporarily fixes after restart
The app seems to work properly now
same problem on s21 seems like a bug with oneUI 6
also wont work on s21, prob problem with oneUI 6
Same thing on A54. When I connect to bluetooth in my car, it doesn't show song info and the player is blurred in notification bar.
what did you do to get it working again?
I'm also back to normal as at 12pm ACDT. No visible updates to spotify or Samsung OneUI...
