Unable to trigger playback frol Android app and use as remote control for my Echo Dot

Unable to trigger playback frol Android app and use as remote control for my Echo Dot

My Question or Issue

My Echo Dot is not visible in the Spotify app. I can start playing anything on the echo using voice and then use the Spotify app on my phone as a remote control. But I'm not able to start/resume playback on the Echo Dot directly from the Android app. Previously I was able to do this.

Hi there @kapad,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community and welcome!

As a first step, try logging out everywhere, restarting your phone and your Echo Dot, and logging back in. If that doesn't make any difference, it's worth restarting your router by unplugging it from power for a few seconds.

Also, make sure that both devices are connected to the same network.

Keep us posted on how it goes.

Hi,

Thanks for your response.

I tried restarting my router and I also tried logging out of everywhere and
the signing back in but neither option worked for me.

Do you have any more troubleshooting suggestions?

To recap my issue. I could previously launch music streaming on either my
fire TV stick or my echo dot directly from the Spotify app. I can no longer
do this, because I do not see the devices in my Spotify app any more.

Hey @kapad,

Thanks for getting back to us 🙂

It's a good idea to give these steps a go and run a clean reinstall. This one is more thorough than the usual one.

We'd suggest you also try with another device to check if there are any changes.

Let us know how it goes.

Hi,

Thanks again for your response.

So, I did a little more troubleshooting at my end, and I've realised that the issue is only with my echo dot.

After following the steps to log out of everywhere, I logged back into,

  • Echo Dot
  • Android TV
  • FireTV stick
  • Laptop
  • Phone

Spotify works fine on all the devices except for my Echo Dot. I'm able to remotely trigger playback on my TV or my Fire TV stick, and trigger music on my laptop from my phone and vice versa. Also, if I start playback on any of my devices, I can control that playback using another device.

But, I still have an issue with my Echo Dot. I tried to disable to Spotify skill and then re-enable it, but that didn't work. The log out of all devices via Spotify also did not work. The the issue remains the same. I cannot start playback on my Echo Dot using the Spotify App. I have to go via voice commands. After I do this, the device is again visible in the Spotify app of my phone/laptop, and can be remotely controlled. Spotify on my Echo Dot, just cannot be remotely started using the Spotify app.

Hey @kapad

Thanks for getting back to us.

We'd recommend making sure that your Echo Dot is running it's latest firmware version.

Also, can you confirm if you're also unable to see the Echo Dot from your laptop to start the playback?

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.
